David Matthew Baker Report post Posted February 26, 2007 As well as wanting to learn more about autism I would like to learn more about special needs in general. For this reason can anyone recommend any good books, websites, publications, etc... that would assist me in learning more. I have asked my present boss (the SENCo at my present school) and also the head teacher of the last school I was at (that one was a Autism specialist school). However neither could recommend any more general texts. Though the head teacher did manage to recommend a lot of good texts on autism. As I'm working with special needs students I really feel I should know a lot more about their needs. Not to mention that it is the area I would ideally like to work in once I am trained as a secondary teacher. (Presently a Special Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant depending on what name you want to use at a mainstream secondary.) Thanks for the help, David. P.S. Also if anyone is a special needs teacher I'd be interested in how you go about obtaining specialism in this area. Do you need to do any additional training or is it a case of convinsing a school to let you work in that area as well as your subject specialism?
