di30 Report post Posted June 6, 2007 Hi everyone We are due to attend a meeting tomorrow morning (Thurs) with the Education Pyschologist, Senco and the Lea, this is long overdue, as the last meeting was in January 07, and this was meant to be a monthly thing, so we had pushed and pushed for this meeting. Daniel who attends yr 7 of a mainstream secondary school has been under IEP's ever since starting reception year, and this continues at this school, he also attends booster lessons a few times a week such as numeracy, literacy and for social skills, he says he can cope with this as these are smaller classes, and said he think he will mention in the meeting tomorrow that he finds it difficult to concentrate in larger classes as he gets easily distracted with all his other his other lessons which has pushed him right back and behind. The meeting tomorrow was to arrange a 'mentor', so while we are there I think we should mention about this, Daniel did say he will tell them himself too, and hopefully they will listen to him and not overlook this. As many of you may already know as I mentioned this on the forums before, Daniel was struggling when it came to PE/GAMES lessons of where he done some disappearing acts on these lessons, over the last few weeks the 'head of year' have finally realised and have withdrawn him from these lessons for now, this has also helped Daniel a lot, instead he will work on something else such as science etc or catch up with something else. I know its only a few more weeks and they break up for the summer holidays, but if they sort something out for him now Daniel can be well prepared for this. These words will be coming out of Daniel's mouth tomorrow, he said he will start speaking up for what he wants, before he would not admit to anything, if asked if everything was ok, he would just say yes as he thinks this is what we all want to hear. Daniel does not have a special need statement, so hopefully they can still help him. He suffers with high levels of anxiety, learning difficulties on the main of the subjects, and just awaiting for his offical diagnosis which may be this month ASD aspergers syndrome. Do you think they should do something about this, especially as Daniel will be requesting about smaller grouped classes not just for the boosters etc ? Look forward to hearing from you and your opinions if possible. Thanks again. luv Di x
