JenRose Report post Posted August 5, 2007 got the letter confirming M,s start date on 11 sep. With it was a leaflet about transport, what to expect etc. now the SEN Manager said they do provide transport but that it wont be put on his statement. at the time i asked why and my ipsea lady said move on and we will address that when the statement comes. so, i didnt ask her and she, away but if transport is provided do they put it in part of the statement? and i wonder if thats so why they dont want to when they provide it anyway? thanks jen
Kathryn Report post Posted August 5, 2007 Hi JenRose Transport does not usually go into the statement, except occasionally in part 6 as "non educational" provision. This doesn't matter, as home - school transport is covered by a different area of the law which applies to all children, and the LEA still has a duty to arrange it anyway, if certain conditions are fulfilled, which they obviously are in your case. Basically, if it's the nearest suitable school, more than 2 - 3 miles away (depending on child's age), or regardless of distance, the child would be unable to get there unless transport was provided, the LEA are obliged to provide transport. Here's a link to a full explanation on the IPSEA site, which may be helpful. http://www.ipsea.org.uk/transport.htm K x
