dooday24 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 hi was wondering if anyone has had camhs go into school and do an assessment as we have still got no formal diagnosis and camhs told me they were just goin into school to observe reece and not to tell him but wen he came out of school he told me she brought in lots of things for him to do and he stayed in at playtime with her his teacher said he was really good and was fine with her but all hell broke loose after school they just dont see the big picture!!! love donnaxxx
JsMum Report post Posted February 9, 2008 It does sound like he has more than just an observation, I would enquire to what assessments they where, from the discription it does sound like the Camhs may of done a test that maybe the Educational Psychologist should be doing, I would for your own benefit ask a bit more information on the kind of assessments they are using and pass on to them that it disrupted his behaviour later into the evening, also Camhs are not as experienced for AS/ASD as they are more for Mental Health Disorders such as Anxiety, ADHD ect.... I would ensure that he has both Camhs, and a spersific Autism assessment from a spercific centre that has expertise in Autism. JsMum

Clare63 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Do you know what position the person from camhs holds, ie what their qualifications are ? It does certainly sound more like an assessment than just an observation. Clare x x x

Clare63 Report post Posted February 9, 2008 Whilst we saw other people from the camhs team to begin with we were eventually refered to a consultant psycharatrist who did the dx. I guess they perhaps are undertaking an initial assessment before referring youn on ?? Try not to worry, but I think I would be contacting for an explaination of what gthey are doing and how their system works. <'> <'> <'> Clare x x x
jools Report post Posted February 10, 2008 yes we had camhs go in and assess/observe G as part of his dx i can't praise camhs enough......for us if they weren't involved as much as they were i really don't think he would have his dx. from camhs we had a specialist teacher who came in to observe and even though the school told me he was an angel she saw what we hoped she would see.....a little boy who wasn't coping, wasn't on task and basically getting swallowed up by the whole school thing. after his first assess/observation she told me she could see traits of asd, add and tourettes....i could have kissed her (as daft as that sounds!) i would ask who it was from camhs that went in and when you should expect to see a report. you may also be able to talk to that person.
