Kazzen161 Report post Posted April 26, 2008 The THOMAS scheme was devised locally about 7 years ago. It is very good. http://www3.hants.gov.uk/childrens-service...port-thomas.htm It consisits of four topics: visual structure and the environment, communication, play, behaviour. You can get a booklet about the THOMAS approach from Hants LA.
NikkiSmith Report post Posted April 26, 2008 My son had THOMAS outreach and it really helped him, once he got used to the idea of someone coming into his house and encouraging him to join in with some fun stuff! He had a TOPs worker for months and it definitely helped him get him used to the idea of PECS cards and trying to communicate before he went to the nursery at a special school. It was also great because she would go into his pre-school and show them what she had been doing with him and encouraging them to do the same, so that we were all being consistent. I hope it helps your son as much, Nikki.
