pompomx2 Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Hi id just like 2 introduce myself. I'm mum to 2 daughters Scarlett 8 and Lula 3. Lula was diagnosed at 2 and half with asperger's. However she doesn't seem to 'fit' all the symptons. She has a vivid imagination and is very popular with her peers at nursery. She doen't have the monotone speech and is very loving. However Lula's asperger's seems to manifest when she is tired, with her need to control everything and can have frequent meltdowns. Her eye contact is poor with adults but normal otherwise. She is highly intelligent and so funny.I almost feel that I live in a parallel universe as most of the time she doesn't show her asperger's and then she will have what we call her autistic days where she needs to just chill and completely rest. Whenever we,ve been to any meeting we only meet boys with autism and it would be nice to chat to someone with a girl with similar asperger's. It's been a hard struggle but I feel that Lula,s almost training herself to cope even at such a young age. She's going to be 4 on the 22nd of may. MandyB Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Hi there, I'm new too, and although I have a boy with ASD (as yet undiagnosed) I can totally relate to some of your stuff... it really does seem that every case has symptoms that fit and symptoms that don't, which makes it difficult to be sure until someone else tells you! Anyway good luck and hope you hear from a few folks with girls! Mandy
baddad Report post Posted May 10, 2008 Hi pompom - welcome to the forum It is all very confusing isn't it! Look at them one day or in one situation and you think 'Autism? Where?' Next day you're thinking 'My God - what was i thinking of yesterday? He/she could be the basis for the textbook!' Not good days and bad days, just different days
Thompsons Report post Posted May 11, 2008 (edited) Hi and welcome Although we have a boy with Aspergers, he does have a female friend with it too and from what I can tell girls tend to show slightly different symptoms from boys. I think that every child is individual anyway and symptoms will manifest in different ways. Like Lula, our boy has a vivid imagination too. It really does differ from child to child.
