Karen A Report post Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) Hi All. I spotted an interesting article in the paper today. It suggests that under the ''Youth Crime Action Plan'' in future permanent exclusion from school should trigger an automatic assessment of needs. It is suggested in the article that although rather late in the day the assessment may help to pick up children with undiagnosed conditions....including ADHD and ASD. I was going to include a link but could not find a way to do it that did not include adverts. However the article was in the Times today under the heading ''Undiagnosed disorders can lead to youth offending'' if anyone is interested and wants to look it up. I know it is rather late in the day to start assessment on permanent exclusion. However as the article states that children with autism are twenty times more likely than average to be excluded from school it may be useful for some in future.Karen. Imelda Report post Posted July 19, 2008 This is excellent news. My eldest son was forever in trouble at school. We moved him and he got excluded from that school. I had to fight to get him back in. I know realise there must be a problem with him, (hes 25) He works now and loves his job but certain things bon't add up. As his mum i must take some responsability for the way he is. smiley Report post Posted July 19, 2008 About time they did this! Not sure if the figures have even been worked out - but it would be very interesting to see what percentage of the prison population had an undiagnosed difficulty.
JsMum Report post Posted July 19, 2008 About time they did this! Not sure if the figures have even been worked out - but it would be very interesting to see what percentage of the prison population had an undiagnosed difficulty. I estimate at least 1 in 4 Male Young Offenders. I estimate at least 1 in 8 Female Young Offender With ADHD I estimate 1 in 3 Male young offenders, and 1 in 7 for Female Young Offenders. It is estimated that many Older Generations of Adult Males and Females have an undiagnosed ADHD and ASDs. The common diagnosis for a young offender now is ODD transferring into Conduct Disorder. I feel its undiagnosed ADHD/ASD mismanaged for many of these young people both girls and lads. It costs a 1000 a week to place a young offender/Adults in prison/Asbo/detention/training programes. JsMum Hi JsMum. It might be worth starting a new thread with the idea above. I think people might miss it here and it is an interesting topic. You could start a new thread yourself or perhaps one of those helpful Mods might help out. Karen.
