Eastenders!!!

Recommended Posts

just caught end of Eastenders. Some Bloke was loosing his partner who drove off in a taxi. The in the middle of the street, with taxi well out of earshot, he was saying "your everything!"

Why??

Why would someone do that blatently when they cant be heard?? seems pointless and stupid to me.......

It's obvious to anybody with intuition. Hint: You don't need to know about any subtle body language or social finesse. If you can't work it out then PM me for the answer.

Shouting out your innermost thoughts and feelings in the street would be unusual behaviour in real life. But in soaps, emotions are always more exaggerated and they tend to go for the melodramatic - for obvious reasons. If he simply stood there and thought it without speaking, it might be more true to life but it wouldn't make such a dramatic conclusion to the episode, would it. :)

(Says I, who never watches any of the soaps. )

I don't watch any soaps, but I have been known to shout at the telly, even though I know the people in the 'magic box' can't actually hear me (except for Noel Edmonds that is) :)

Also, I have cursed people out loud once I know they're out of ear shot, is that the same thing?

My friend had to stop her HFA lad from watching soaps. He was modelling the behaviour he saw, & ended up attacking a neighbour's car after David in Corrie did it.

Oh god Pearl! I am soo worried about this, my lad is obsessed with the soaps. I Have diverted him from watching the BILL, but corrie, we all watch. another thing to worry about, as he talks about the charactors as though they are real! Enid

Difficult isnt it? In one way its a good way to explore emotions etc, but as Kathryn said they are so exaggerated it really isnt like real life. My sons lad thought the neighbours were being horrible to him (they werent, he'd just misunderstood a situation) and that was the result.

Bill loves to watch episodes of 'Friends'. We have every episode on dvd. I think it's an excellent show for exploring and learning about may different emotions; they cover everything - friendship, dating, dating warfare, lust/sex  , stupid mistakes, faux pas, triumphs, heart break, just about every aspect of socialising comes into it. And because of the drama and exageration of each situation it is easy to differentiate one emotion from another and also how they overlap. Also some of the characters go through agonising self doubt and extremely awkward social scenarios which people with AS (as well as just about anybody else) can particularly relate to. Every incident covers both sides of the story and shows how misunderstandings can easily occur. This is all done with an underlying integrity within most of the characters (which programmes like East enders and corrie etc seem to be horribly lacking in). Just my opinion of course and others might think Friends is too unrealistic a set up for it to be of any use. Others might also hate the show, but we all love it :D

Oo I love Friends

Happy memories of watching it with S when she was a teen. Never thought of it as a teaching tool though, good idea.

I think JP would identify with Ross - "dinosaur dude"! :D

Anyone seen Big Bang Theory?? We love it :)

I've never seen it smiley but my dd watched it and she was not that impressed. Have you seen 'The Inbetweeners'? Very very funny sit com about a bunch of 6th form boys. It had me and dd in stitches.
