ECAP

Recommended Posts

I don't know whther anyone has heard of this or it is just in my area. They describe themselves as follows:

The Early Years Diagnostic Centre, administered by the Nottingham and Regional Society for Autistic Children and Adults, has recently completed a three-year action research project developing the Frameworks for Communication approach; a diagnostic and intervention programme for very young children with autism and their families. Evaluation of the programme has demonstrated significant progress in the children involved and high levels of satisfaction amongst the parents who felt empowered to work effectively with their own children.

The following core service will be provided by the ECAP intervention team.

Initial assessment and a regularly updated individual programme

Weekly home visits (lasting about 2 hours) from a specialist member of the team, working with the child and helping the family develop programmes and strategies to carry out with their child on a daily basis

A parent workshop series of 8 sessions (each lasting 3-4 hours) when parents and carers can learn together about how to improve communication with their child, share their experiences and benefit from mutual support

A series of ?How to?? booklets giving practical strategies which are reinforced by advice given during the home visits and workshops

Follow up support to enable children to make a successful transition to nursery or school, this will include training for staff .

We have waited 3 months for the "panel" to decide whether jaden will be accepted and I found out today he has (starting from next week!)

After reading so much info,I feel I can now put into practice helping my son learn with someone guiding me who knows what they are talking about a lot more than i do!

Apparently it is very intensive (working with him upto 40 hours per week) but I am ready!! :fight:

I feel like I can do something really positive now rather than having the knowledge and not knowing where to start with him.

Will let you know how it goes.

Denise

Hi Jadensmum,

I would be very interested in any literature that you may have.

Is this a private scheme that is supported by the LEA/Early Years people.

Most importantly, if it is a private scheme, is it fully funded by the LEA.

Sorry to ask so many cheeky questions, but I am very interested in Early Intervention schemes.

If there is information that you would prefer no to make public, then please pm me.

Thanks

HelenL

It sounds brilliant!

Keep us updated with it all. We're currently going through the whole early intervention process with our 2yr-old so any tips and ideas would be most welcome. B)
