NobbyNobbs Report post Posted January 12, 2009 i got my appointment today for my NHS assessment for AS (i already have a private dx, but wanted a full one that the GPs would actually accept rather than just saying 'oh yeah, lot of that going about'). i have an 'informal pre-assessment meeting' with the clinical nurse mid-february. anyone who has got the NHS route (rare, i know) have any idea what this is about? i was amazed, the person will come to my home to talk to me. considering the hospital is a LONG (2 hours) way from me i was very impressed about that, but i have to make a call to confirm where i want the meeting and am anticipating them asking if i can come to them, as the nurse would lose 5 hours of appointment time to see me! (i dont have a problem with that, i'm used to hospitals these days and it makes more sense to waste my time than theirs). its also pretty incredible because the initial letter recognising my referral stated an 8-10 month wait for an appointment and its only been 3-4! at this rate by the time the DLA write again to say they've ignored what my letters for my appeal say, i'll have something to send them they can't argue with! bid Report post Posted January 12, 2009 In have an NHS dx, but I was referred to a specialist clinic. Someone who knew me when I was a child needed to be involved with the dx process, and attended the final appointment with me (my mum). Good luck <'> Bid
NobbyNobbs Report post Posted January 16, 2009 i called to confirm the appointment and they've bulked in a couple in the area which is why i've skipped the waiting list. and the assessment is being done by.... CAMHS!!! i'm 23 so thats a bit odd. no wonder they're always so busy if they're still running round after people my age (i got signed off from them at 18 for another matter!) chris54 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Not sure if it is the same everywhere and for what services but Adolescent and young persons services go up to age 25.
NobbyNobbs Report post Posted March 2, 2009 i think i posted this somewhere else but... i have had the initial assessment and he's sure of HFA/AS, so i've been referred for the assessment at the diagnosis centre. hes also applied for funding for a support worker. what i would like to know is what the 'other' form of ASD assessment is. i know of ADOS but someone mentioned that there were two methods of assessment, and they didn't know what this particular centre (Worthing, West Sussex) used. anyone got any ideas?
