hsmum Report post Posted January 17, 2009 Hello, We are moving house and the boys are changing school at the end of this month. I have an appointment to see the headmistress of the new school and the SENCo on Wednesday. Both my sons have special needs:DS1 is statemented and DS2 is on School Action Plus. The school is a small village junior school. What sort of questions should I ask? Thanks

hsmum Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Are the schools within the same local authority? Hello Puffin, No they are in different LEAs. We have cxontacted the LA for the new scholl and asked for the statement to be passed on.
puffin Report post Posted January 19, 2009 It would be a good idea to assemble copies of paper work - diagnoses and paperwork relating to previous support etc When you cay "small village school" - how small is this? Are there issues such as mixed aged teaching etc that you need to take up? You might also want to find out what sort of SEN knowledge/experience the school has - small schools can be great - on the other hand they may: - lack experience - have tiny SEN budgets Obviously the most important thing is to make sure that the new authority is going to fund/implement the statement. If there has been an LSA involved - will they be recruiting one at the new school - what sort of elements would be important if they are recruiting a new person? It would also be a good idea to find out what sort of support your other child would be entitled to - will he be getting support at SA+ from the start or will you be starting from the beginning again while they assess and decide what level of support to provide? It would also be good if you have a clear idea of what you want to happen - so that the head is clear about this
