ScienceGeek Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I've heard about it, but never really looked into what it meant. Ok that wasn't helpful, hopefully someone comes up with a more helpful response than that
Tally Report post Posted January 23, 2009 It's a way of desensitising a person to something they are vert sensitive to. For example, if someone had very acute hearing and was often distressed by normal sounds they heard outside, it is a way of gradually exposing them to those sounds until they can cope with them. If someone had touch sensitivities which made it uncomfortable to wear clothes, a sensory diet would gradually introduce them to different sensations. BusyLizzie100 Report post Posted January 24, 2009 My son is supposed to have a sensory diet. This is an explanation off an internet site: The sensory diet is a carefully designed, personalised activity schedule that provides the sensory input a person's nervous system needs to stay focused and organized throughout the day. A person whose nervous system is on "high trigger" will need more calming input, while someone who is more "sluggish" will need more arousing input to "jazz" up her nervous system. Infants, young children, teens, and adults can all benefit from a well-designed sensory diet. Hope that helps. Lizzie x
