Hi I'm new here. I'm a 32 year old man, recently diagnosed with Asperger's following a bout of depression and some relationship issues. I have to say that the diagnosis came as a great relief. I'd always realised that there was something a bit 'different' about me, and it's good to be able to put a name to it. I don't see having AS as a bad thing at all - many traits, such as the ability to focus on detail, work in my favour. Other things are more of a problem; I'm currently getting CBT/ OT help for them.

It's great to hear that you feel so positive about your dx

 

My son is 6 and has a dx of high-functioning autism. I agree with you that there are many positives - he is very affectionate and also has amazing ability with maths and reading. We are awaiting an OT referral to help with his sensory issues - sadly the waiting list is about a year, so it's a bit frustrating. We're a very friendly bunch on here, and I'm sure you'll find lots of support and advice, as well as plent of laughs
