kats Report post Posted June 26, 2009 Hi everyone In the last year I underwent some tests to see if I had aspergers and I found it did. I find it quite hard to do the day to day things and I get mixed up with things a lot. My life is like being in a noisy bar, where all the information that I get coming in is all mixed up and I cannot take it. Does anyone else feel the same way. I just feel that I cannot talk to anyone about things like this as they don't understand what I have. I feel alone and even tho I have a bf he doesn't understand how to help and what it is that I have, so it makes it harder for me at times. many thanks kats
Sally44 Report post Posted June 26, 2009 Hello and welcome, I don't have an ASD, but my son does. What you describe I have heard other similar experiences. I am sure other adults on the spectrum will post with their experiences. My son does have auditory processing disorder and so do I. I don't know if that might be something relevant to what you describe as I find it hard when there are a number of sound sources to actually home in on any one of them. My ears appear to pick up the odd word and sound from all over the place so that I cannot make sense of any of it. I also find it hard to talk on the phone if there is background noise, and I generally cannot locate the direction a sound is coming from. Sensory processing issues are also common with ASDs and you might find it useful to find out about them. I found a very useful book called Sensory and Perceptual Differences in Autism and Aspergers by Olga Bogdashina very helpful.
