Hi,

Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm in Kent and am Mum to 5 and a half year old twin boys, both autistic with global developmental delay, one entirely non verbal the other echolaic. I removed them from a 'special' school in June as they were losing skills faster than I could replace them and were being treated appallingly by the most arrogant of staff who felt they'd seen it all and had nothing left to learn. I now home educate them in the absence of a safe suitable school and they are doing brilliantly, much happier and healthier and actually learning!!

The boys were diagnosed two and a half years ago and we've seen some brilliant people and some less brilliant, it seems things are rather patchy here, especially since they closed our CDC with three hours notice and scattered the services across five towns, it's hard now to keep track of who is where. It's nice to find a UK forum for discussions :)

Best wishes

L

Hi Vanilla,

Welcome to the forum. :)

Sorry to hear your boys had such a bad school experience but it's good that they're now doing well. I look forward to reading your posts.

Hi vanilla, Im facinated by Twins, there is a fair few twins in my family too, though personally I dont know if I had of coped with twins and both on the Spectrum, so hats off to you, im in orr, I totally understand your decision to home educate as you were apauled by the special schools attitude to your boys, it took me a very long time to find a suitable special school for my son due to not been satisfied with the special school available locally, one in particular I had to stop the viewing and decided there and then he wasnt going there, so I do understand, but he is in a fantastic specialist school now and doing well too, I flexi schooled for a year and it nearly killed me, so I continued searching and finally found one that I knew he would be happy in.

It can be difficult to get the right services in your area, like your area they have amaligamated some services and closed others, the support services that are available are voluntary and set up by parents with special needs children as they have got fed up of having no services available spersific to their needs.

Again that is frustrating that the local authority cant support children with varying disabilities, or needs.

Are you involved with any home education support groups, many children who are home educated have special needs, many a mixture of Dyslexia to ASDs, there is many parents here too who have/are home educated/ing, flexi school or had difficulties with their childs education so Im sure you have come to a great place for support.

Anyway nice to meet you, hope to hear from you soon.
