I think you're being very patient, I would have blown a fuse by now.

Ross is out of school and won't be going back until we have a diagnosis - it may be a very strong tactic but I'm not putting him through more of what he has already had to deal with.

I suspect that Ross will be back in a new school by Sept 2010.

Good Luck!

I do understand how you are thinking and feeling. But keeping your son out of school can mean you are acting illegally.

Hi Sally,

Just to clear this one up, my son is not legally required to attend school until after Easter 2010 and he only catches this years intake by 7 days. I did ask for him to be deferred but Cheshire were very unpleasant about it and we gave up.

However CASADT have commented that as we are working towards a CAF, have substantial evidence that show that our son needs further support in school and that I am also able to Home Educate in the short term we should not get much resistance from the schools authority.

The CAF shows that the Behavioural 'specialist' we have seen has been of no help and actually hindered us so we will continue to dig our heals in until the situation changes.

CASADT have done more for us in the last week than the NHS have in over 4 years - they have actually listened and believed us so with their assistance Ross won't be out of school for too long. However If I have him at home from now until Sept 2010 I will enjoy this extended time with him - this time last year he was too ill to do much and we missed out on a lot of things I wanted to do.

Lynn

PS sorry if my writing comes over very harsh, it's not what I intend.

What does CASDT stand for?

If you are home educating then that is a whole different kettle of fish. From the other post I thought you were just refusing to send your son into school.

However 'sometimes' home educating can lead to the LEA being even slower to do anything because they are not legally obliged any more as you have taken over the responsibility of educating your child.

The system is pants.

If yu are home educating then this is very different - the local authority are not required to meet his needs if the parents have taken responsibility for education

Of course everyone has made if very clear that Ross should be back in school, we've not said No, just not until the NHS sort out the long outstanding issues.

I'll keep your comments in mind, it would be very annoying if anyone tried to pull the rug from under our feet just as we started to get somewhere.

Thanks.

If he has difficulties consistent with a dx of an ASD, and you are just going through the formalities of getting the dx, what school placement are you looking for.

Please be aware that if your LEA has any maintained enhanced resource or ASD specific schools, that those places will be filled by primary children with a dx. You ideally want your child in the system otherwise by the time they dx they are going to say there are no places available at a school that can meet his needs and will push you to remain mainstream.

In emergency cases children can be moved to the appropriate school 'whilst' the dx/Statement is being put together. If you have been promised a place at a particular school do you have that in writing? Please ensure that everything said and promised to you is in writing.

I persevered in mainstream with my son for 2 years on the understanding from the EP that if I ever needed an enhanced resource place at our LEAs only mixed mainstream/ASD school, that my son would get a place. After two years I applied for an assessment towards the Statement and asked for a placement at this school. At that point the EP said there were no places available and that she could not make another place for him.

So we ended up going to tribunal about that and other issues.
