Ninascottie Report post Posted April 9, 2010 Hi am am new to this, but really glad l found this site. I live with my partner in hertfordshire and he has just been diagnosed with Aspergers quite mild l think but it now explains a lot! Does anybody know if ther are many support groups in or near my area? I think support groups would be really helpful for both the person and the families of aspergers. Look forward to replys and much appreciated any info on this.

Kathryn Report post Posted April 10, 2010 Hi Ninascottie, welcome to the forum. I'm in Herts too. The Hertfordshire branch of the NAS, (which has retained its former name: HARC) is probably a good place to start. I'm not actively involved with them to be honest, but I've kept up my membership and I get their newsletters and emails and there seems to be quite a lot of good stuff going on. I think it's certainly worth joining. Here's the website: it's a bit rough and ready but the details are up to date: http://www.harc-online.org.uk/index02a.htm I hope that helps you too Marc. If I hear of anything specific in the area I'll let you know. K x
trekster Report post Posted April 10, 2010 Parents and carers support groups exist but not partner ones. http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=217 for the HELP! programme which helps parents and carers of newly diagnosed asperger/autistic folk. http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=914&a=9861 NAS branches in SE England.
