justine1 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Hi Not sure if anyone can help...I found a childminder who is going to look after my boys when I go to Uni in September. But she is only registered to take kids under 8.Sam will be 8 next year so what do I do then? To get the funding it has to be registered childcare. I am confused
chris54 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) I use to be a childminder. Bearing in mind that there have been a lot of changes over the recent years so this may be out of date. The regulations for children under 8 are much tighter than for older children, for example the number of children which can be looked after. As far as I am aware if they are registered for younger children it will cover them for older children, they can be registered for older children only. The childminder should know all this. You could contact OFSTED for clarification. Edited June 10, 2010 by chris54
jo4themo Report post Posted June 10, 2010 As far as I know (I currently work in a playgroup and looked into becoming a childminder last year) a childminder can only care for children age under 8 if they are registered with OFSTED. If they are just going to be caring for children age over 8 they do not have to be registered. I looked into it as my friend needed childcare for her daughter age 8, but she would only be able to claim childcare benefit from Tax Credit if I was registered. Hope this helps! What she said, for some reason the provision for over 8's change and you can still get the funding for TC to pay. I would imagine uni funding is similar
