Tired of the waiting!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just a bit of a moan really.I called the childrens development centre, where Sam was dx'd,to find out about both Sam and Dans appts.I was hoping to have both appts on the same day,as it costs £50 on taxi each time I go there, also hoped it would be before they go back to school in September because (1)I will be at Uni and not sure how it will look when I got to miss a day and (2)would have liked the report for the school.

Anyway I was told that firstly it wont be a good idea to have them on the same day cause one is an initial assessment and one is a 6 mth follow-up ,also with two different paed's.Secondly,Dan has to wait a furthur 2 months !!!! May not seem long but we have already been on the list since beginning of MAY.Apparently there is now a 4-5mth wait, when Sam went same time last year it was 2-3mth wait and we were seen in 5 weeks!

So I am a little dissapointed :( I have been struggling so much with Dan for two years now and just want some help,I know he may not have an ASD but he clearly has problems and I need help dealing with these problems. It was different with Sam as he was not giving problems at home and I had become so used to the way he is,if it werent for his problems at school I could have waited six mths for his appt.Dan on the other hand is just wearing me down :tearful: Having been to so many GP's, dietician and CAMHS,I am just exhausted :crying:

Well on the positive side I was told Sam needs to come in soon as he was meant to have his appt last mth,so it should come through in two weeks or so

Just an update! Well I was under the impression I would get Sam's appt first(after all its almost 2 mths overdue!) but to my surprise I got Dans letter this morning and he will be going on 2 August.I am so pleased as it wont affect my Uni in September, also leased that its come earlier than expected.

They have actually changed to a MDA so as its my first xperienceof ths I am now nervous.I got a leaflet explaining about MDA but it doesnt actually state who the professionals are  I know one is the specialist paed but thats it!!

Anyway I feel one step closer to finding out whats going on with Dan

fab news, am with you on the exhausted thing with DD3, her appointment is Aug 11th xx

That is great  I wasnt sure about the MDA but after reading the leaflet properly it actually seems really ideal as I will get to talk to more than one professional which Dan needs, cause I think even if he has no ASD he does need S&LT.They may even give a dx on the same day, which will be great,if not they will see him again but will give some help in the meantime  I cant believe it now its just 12 days away!!!!

Good luck to you and your little one,let me know how you get on >:D<<'> >:D<<'>

Whats an MDA? I have to take her to the child development and therapy centre to meet one of the team of paeds, but maybe it is the same sort of thing?

Well Sam went to just a community paed specialising in ASD's but Dan has to go to a Multi Disciplinary Assessment (MDA)I couldnt understnd why at first than after reading the leaflet they gave me, it states all under 5's go for MDA.

I was worried as it means there will be 5 professionals observing him,the community paed(who is different to Sams)someone from early years education team,an audiologist(to check hearing) S&LT and someone to check his sight(not optomoterist or opthamologist, someone else??)

After reading the leaflet I am a little more relaxed as I understand more about the whole process and sounds more thorough than what Sam had.

I first speak to the Paed for an hour, the usual history taking and my concerns. Then Dan will go to a play area where there will be up to 6 other children also there for initial assessments, they will try see how he interacts with others and what he likes to play with(imaginative play etc)During this I will talk to education person and S&LT about my concerns.I thought they would all be sitting in a row and then start throwing questions at me and I have to answer 5 people(like Dragons Den  ),which seemed pretty scary

Then at the end they will discuss what they have seen and say how they can help, they may even give a dx but may not.I will get a copy of their report 3 weeks later(in time for school)and then he will go back in 3-4 mths time and may go for other appts in that time(like S&LT)

Ahhh sounds similar to what a friend of mine had at the centre I am going to with DD3, tht makes sense as they are so little. The Dragon's Den idea had crossed my mind as well!
