Another newbie

Hi, i'm new here so please be gentle

 

I have an almost 5 year old son who may have aspergers. his school are going to assess him and see if they think he has as they believe he is showing some of the traits.

 

I'm still not sure what to think as i know some of he behaviour seems a little odd (sorry didn't know how else to put it) at times but i don't really know how a 5 year old "should" behave

 

He is very stubborn so a lot of it could just be that ?

 

He doesn't like people he doesn't know getting too close and by close i mean just walking past or behind him, if he was sitting on a bench and someone who he doesn't know sits on the other end of it he will have to move, he hates people being in the same room as him when he eats and will often have a tantrum because of this. He is a very fussy eater and refuses to try new things. He won't try to do simple things like drink out of a cup he just ends up getting upset and sceaming that he can't do it. His speach has been excellent from a young age and he is well above average inteligence. He is obssessed by trains and numbers (he is very good at maths)

 

there is so much more but i fear you would get fed up reading (if you haven't already)

 

some of this is probably just typical 5 year old behaviour (or maybe all) and although i have suspected for some time that some of is behaviour is odd no one else has ever mentioned it until he has started school a month ago

I have four boys,my 7yr old Sam has ASD/Aspergers and my 4 yr old Dan has ASD/HFA(speech problems)

 

I didnt know that schools can assess kids Both my boys were assessed and diagnosed by specialist paediatricians and a develpoment centre. My 7yr old was then assessed by an ed psych and ASD outreach to determine what support he needs in school.

HI thanks for the reply, i used the word assessed for want of a better word the school can't officially assess him but his teacher said she would get the school SEN to observe him. tbh i am a bit unsure of what his teacher actually said as it was a lot to take in plus it was the end of the school day and my ds was playing up wanting to go home and i'm sure you know how difficult a conversation can be with someone wingeing in you ear x
