Hi All

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm Kelly My 1st son R is 4 1/2 yrs old. He was premature born at 30wks. So right from the off he was as I would say slow with the mile stones.. but he was a happy little boy, he didn't walk til he was 2 and never said any real words til he 2 and half. Which to be honest was not the norm 1st words Purple being the first followed by the word Dalek, R is very much a fan of Dr who and has been from a young age.

I'm getting a little of track so on his 2 1/2yr check up with the health visitor she suggested he went and seen a speech therapist which we thought was a good idea. It didn't take long for him to start little group sessions with 5 other little boys for about 6wks.

They observed him and gave their opinion, they though he would benefit from some sessions at nursery which he was starting in the April age 3. Its only been quite recently that people have been to see him in school. He is now in Reception which he started in Sept.

Know is all been happening and they want him to be seen at the family and child unit at our local hospital. All the specialists that have been to see him at school and at home have all said he has ASD but he would need need some expert opinion's in that area.

I am like most parents, I didn't really no anything about ASD, but I have been doing some research and with speaking to the specialists

that have seen R it really seems obvious now. repeating, his routines, playing alone, head butting, to name a few.

I really though that it was just down to being premature and that it will come with time.. but We have would it very hard as a family we cant take him out that often he gets very unhappy and it just ends in tears. The potty training is also a huge issue he just does not get it and the fact that he does not really understand language.

any advise would be much appreciated. thanks

Hi Kelly.

Welcome....i think you'll find everyone's advise helpful and it's comforting to know that your not alone and that there are other's in a similar situation to yourself. I've only been on here since July,i came on after my 15 year old ds diagnosed with AS.
