rachel scothern Report post Posted January 26, 2011 Hi my name is Rachel I have a little Boy Dylan Scothern Feel free to google him....he is 6 years old and has ASD.. He has been on the local news because the primary Care trust have cut his speach and language therapy they say because he is over 5. Dylan can only say a few words. Seems like a write of to me.... I think it should go on need not on age ....has anyone going through this.................
smiley1590 Report post Posted January 26, 2011 i agree totally that should go on need not age however long the support is needed reuqired should be there for child access to improve on Speech and language skills didn't know age had anything to do with support being withdrawn as this will help him develop skills further ....denying him the right is SO WRONG! do you know if down to funding cuts? have you wrote to local MP? make them aware? does he get any other source of support from outside services elsewhere? do you use PECS system with him? My local MP Vernon Coaker has taken it to questions in parliment...... so sad Google Dylan Scothern to see.. Yes I have used PECS before. He's not to keen he likes to help himself to stuff....got some behaviour issues
smiley1590 Report post Posted January 26, 2011 has you tried persisting with PECS system even though he not keen he may not like due to frustrations!? i saw that took your son's case to parliment feel like on 'losing fight/battle' it's so sad that has come to this ending up suffering and being set back due the country's debt! and losing services that are critical to moving forward /his overall future progress!!! Kathryn Report post Posted January 26, 2011 Welcome, Rachel. Sorry to hear about your son's speech therapy. Sadly I think we're going to hear more of this kind of thing as funding cuts continue to be made. Does your son have a Statement? K x
