sesley Report post Posted May 13, 2011 http://lagunabeach.patch.com/articles/autism-a-lesson-in-compassion-5 i aprticulary like this bit A bumper sticker I once saw read: “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met ONE person with autism!” This is so true! As with all individuals, children with autism have wonderful qualities worth recognizing and highlighting, unfortunately, some of these qualities cause them to be ridiculed in class. My responsibility as a teacher is to facilitate their acceptance in my classroom, and parents can help!
dm2010 Report post Posted May 13, 2011 Yes - if only there was a general enlightened attitude. What can actually happen is ridicule from the class, and the teacher saying "he brings it on himself". A combination which regrettably I grew very familiar with.
