blue Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Hello People! Joe has been to see a pedeatrician who said that he was suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder and ATTRACTION deficit disorder. (Bearing in mind that he has already had a diagnosis of juvinile depression from a psychiatrist and Aspergers from a doctor in Psychology) I know what attention deficit is but have NEVER heard of ATTRACTION deficit disorder...despite searching the web forever (well not quite forever but for a bluming long time!) Has anyone here been diagnosed with the same?...or have even heard of it? Also......another quickie.....we have just come off our holiday which I was totally dreading..(Joe is so not into change) BUT....he coped well.....or maybe we are coping better? He still refuses to learn to swim....he's quite happy STANDING in the pool for ages....but before we would encourage him to try...and now we happy to let him stand! It made me think a bit about how I perceived him before.....trying to encourage him to have a GOOD TIME like other children do....but have realised he is quite happy having a good time in his own way and maybe our problem has been not excepting that if he's not doing what other kids are doing...or acting like other kids do.....he cant be happy???!!!!! ANYWAY'S hope you all are well! Lisa x
BuntyB Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Sorry, I have never heard of it either. Can you ask the paed for more info?
BuntyB Report post Posted July 27, 2005 I have just been looking for you. Is this paed some sort of joker? I found this phrase on a comic page as a polite way of telling someone they are ugly.
blue Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Hi, Yes I know it is very odd! I havent another appointment until October......will call and ask for further info. I did ask at the time....but you know he just waffled about there being a spectrum of disorders and that I shouldnt take it personally! Oh well.....wont read to much into it until I find out more. lorryw Report post Posted July 27, 2005 Hi Lisa I hate to be deeply cynical but I do sometimes wonder wether these specialists (I use the term loosely!) simply invent titles of conditions. I sometimes imagine them sitting in a room taking bets as to who can get away with the daftest most meaningless condition, I think your guy definately won this week. I am so pleased your lad had a great holiday and enjoyed himself on his terms. Loraine xx
TuX Report post Posted July 27, 2005 (edited) Blue, are you sure you didn't mishear him? there is no such thing as attraction defecit disorder. The word attraction, means to make something move in closer to whatever it is,the word defecit, means to be lacking in something-so with meanings put together,it supposedly means unable to make anything go to/go near the person, due to lacking in the ability to attract. It's obvious the name doesn't exist, but maybe he has used it to mean something social related? Edited July 27, 2005 by TuX
blue Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Tux, Sure as sure I didnt mishear him as I asked him to repeat it! And Loraine........I wouldnt put it past them to do that! I think maybe it's because they dont know....so make it up....or probably on the cutting edge of science...a break through theory of his....not! When I go back I will have to say "Oh how we laughed" when I tell him how my friends reacted when I mentioned his diagnosis! And suggest maybe he checks out he dosent suffer from Inverted Intelligence Disorder...see how his search for the meaning goes....it'll do his head in for a bit to say the least. Not really funny though when you really think about it. Our children's future is in the hands of pillocks like this.........Oh well! Lisa x
baddad Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Having just read Shona's second post, I think I'd be going back and asking the gink if he fancied the idea of a 'severe front tooth deficiency'... I think you came up against a rather cocky little nerk who thinks it's funny to 'baffle' people with medical 'in joke' terminology... If he accuses you of having a 'humour bypass' for taking it to heart, your next offer should be a rather hefty blood transfusion... lorryw Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Where do these people come from? I once had the misfortune to have a meeting with my sons former head teacher and an educational psycologist. They were obviously mates, talked about golf etc before getting down to business. School was having probs with sons temper tantrums and didnt believe it wasnt happening at home (it is now!) The suggestion was that if he felt slightly cross he gave the teacher an amber card and if he felt very angry a red card which would enable hime to leave the room. The fact that my son would have absolutely no idea what the wretched cards were for and what they represented completely passed this guy. When I pointed this out he was shocked and gave me a huge speech about how he had worked with autistic children for years bla bla. When I stood my ground and asked where he had worked with these oh so lucky children he became flustered and muttered something about all over the country. Im afraid any faith I had in him had flown out the door when I mentioned a friend whose little lad couldnt bear the windows open, even on the hottest of days and did he have any ideas?. His suggestion..air conditioning... followed by a knowing wink and snort of laughter. Complete idiot!!! Loraine
blue Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Loraine, Crying out loud.....that story is about as stupid as mine! When I go in October I am going to take a dictaphone.......and record it......and I will post on here his very words! Didnt Ester Ranson use to give awards away to numpties like these to show them up?.............we could all give names of a nominee or two! helenl53 Report post Posted July 29, 2005 Hi Guys I never wish ill on people. It is not nice. But sometimes - I just wish - only for them to know what this is like for the kids and us. Wish they had virtual ASD machines and maybe we could put all these plonkers in and let them know what it is like. The arrogance astounds me. Love to all of you who have come up against these ignorant plebs Love HelenL
~Jonathan~ Report post Posted July 31, 2005 I worry sometimes about these supposed health care professionals. I went to see a counsellor through my GP and she was trying to get me into Shamanic Trance work as a way of reclaiming the balance in my life. She was a tad surprised when I told her that I just wanted to chat and wasn't into spiritual jiggerypokery.
