Woww - what a ride

Recommended Posts

Havent been online for a few weeks - and soooooooo much has happened.

To start with my mother passed away and i thought Colin (6) wouldnt understand or cope - but she had emigrated to another country and I think that made a difference to how he perseived it.

On the same week - I discovered that three years of fighting the system has paid off - I think the penny finally dropped.

Colin has been excluded 37 days out of the last two terms and the school he was at were notable to help - After calling the biggest core group meeting - 17 people including - Health psych, Educational psych, behavioural support team, etc... I announced to them all that all there fancy ideas of ploughin more money and time into getting him settled at a school thats clearly too big and too noisy for him- wouldnt it be better to send him to a placement that was ready made - and that i happened to know that within a five mile radius of my home was a center of excellence for ASD. - We finally got his statement back agreeing that he needed 26 hours additional funding and one on one teaching, - so I bounced that back to the educational board with the same response - wouldnt it be better economics to send him to a placement that could better deal with his needs - rather than waste his precious time and their money setting up to deal with his needs.

We discovered that there was only none space left in this center and I wasnt sure how it would turn out.

We got the news that although 20 other families had vied for this spot - Colin had got in - he goes from a class of 30 kids and one teacher to a class of 7 with two trained teachers - and they do riding, swimming, music therapy, trampolining-

I still cant believe it - and all on a provisional diagnosis of Aspergers - and that too will soon be rectified - we finally got our appointment to see the speacialist in three weeks - after being on the waiting list two years, - Its all happened so fast - i still cant beleive it - I feel awful for those other families that missed out but I cant help but feel elated that he will be in the best place possible to help his particuar needs.

Next step - DLA - but im soo gald not to have to fight the educational system anymore - It pays off - eventually - if you fight hard enough and shout the loudest. the Wiltshire educational system - actually worked!:cheers::cheers:
