Tez Report post Posted November 1, 2005 A is going to try going to a club for As teenagers on Wednesday evening. It is a new venture that will soon be given Charity status. It is run by 5 adults and only has places for up to 10 teenage boys. I'm not quite sure how it's going to work out but I'm sure it's worth a try. I'm told that it runs for an hour and a half and is broken down into smaller sessions, some structured activities others less structured where they can play on console games or board games. It's hoped that the boys will become friends and learn to support each other. There are other activities organised for them where they are encouraged to develop team working skills, a recent one was a trip to a lake where they were given the materials to build a raft and had to work together to achieve it. It's hoped that they will soon be able to put a worker into each of the local Secondary schools so that they can have a safe room for AS teenagers at break times and lunch time. Does anyoneelse have anything similiar locally and if so is it successful?
Kathryn Report post Posted November 1, 2005 It sounds good, Tez and I hope it works out. I don't know if there is anything similar in our area - I guess not. Why only boys though?? What are the AS girls in the area supposed to do?
Tez Report post Posted November 1, 2005 Kathryn they're hoping to set up a separate group for girls. It was started by someone who used to work for the local Parent Partnership to support some boys he was helping through the education system hence the boys group but if the demand is there he hopes the whole thing will grow. Jeni Report post Posted November 1, 2005 my son goes to a club twice a month, its for both girls and boys and is a charity thing. they have different activities and the kids can choose what they want to do, be it consoles, watching dvd/video, painting etc. he absolutely loves it and its given him something different to do away from his younger brother. they do trips during school holidays and other sorts of activities as well. bluejean-genie Report post Posted November 2, 2005 Hi Tez, Nat goes to a youth Club once a week which is only for AS children. He is picked up from home in a taxi and brought back and he has been attending for the past 12 months now. When there he can bake, play table tennis, play pool, play on the computer/playstation, they also have a tuck shop. They go on trips and he has been wall climbing, to the theatre and they have just had a Halloween party. He got a selection box at last years Christmas party. He likes going as long as no one makes him socialise as he still trusts no-one unfortunately.

spectrumlady Report post Posted November 2, 2005 :clHi all, I started up the Spectrum club in High Wycombe 3 years ago, and we opened another in Aylesbury last year. Both clubs are extremely successful. Both clubs are for boys and girls, we also have activities through the holidays. The clubs are run on common interest activities, in other words, we go with whatever the interest is !! Visitors always welcome.ap:
