Lynden Report post Posted January 25, 2006 I went to visit the developmental nursery that Logan will attend today - he wont go till August but obviously if we didn't like it, developmental nurserys are a lot harder to find than mainstream when you live in the sticks. The primary school itself that the nursery is attached to is a completely new building, only a few years old so its all lovely. The developmental nursery is sectioned off from the main nursery, but they have full access to the main nursery if they need it. They have a max of 8 children there at any time but are rarely full capacity and have 4 dedicated staff. They do take part in some activities/snack with the NT children but that depends on the child. Both the nursery and the SEN section seem really well equiped and the staff are lovely. They have a dedicated soft play room, and a dedicated sensory room, as well as the OT, SLT and Physio visiting once a week. They also do dedicated IEPs for each child so I'm really happy with it. It is in the next town so he'll the transport to and from the school, and a dedicated escort on the journeys. He may also get to go to school there too which would be nice as they have max classes of 10 and excellent facilities. Its just such a relief to know that he has a place there and that its somewhere I'll be comfortable with him being. Lynne

Lynden Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Sounds good Glad he has a place there. Was there anything you weren't happy with? Hi oPooh Nope, nothing glaringly obvious that I wasn't happy with. The other plus is that three of the staff are trained in Makaton and two in PECS which is great. I think he'll be happy there, but I guess time will tell!! Lynden Report post Posted January 25, 2006 Excellent That sounds great! Glad you felt happy with it, it makes a real difference Lx Was fairly worried about it because before it opened special needs choices were limited here but it is a fantastic set up. I thought it would be because the therapists and HV all rave about it. Still not sure how I'll feel about him going though LOL Lynne x
