Back on subject .

 

My daughter was finally after many years diagnosed with AS. Things went on as usual doctors specialists blah blah. After we did some more groundwork WE found out about the drugs that can help control the temper and moods. Eventually they amitted to knowing of this drug and the neccassary people prescribed it for her.We had to swap from the tablet form to the liquid form as she was starting to refuse to take them due to the enormous weight increase. In a matter of a few short months she put on an extra 4 stones. ! Now as recently as a month ago I find out theres omega 3 and hoodia (not sure if im allowed to mention that so apologies in advance ) which stop this problem. The chemist says to us. " oh yes you use that to combat the weight gain " as did our doctor and so called specialists . My daughter has gained over 4 stone has terrible stretch marks and now is extremely comscious of going anywhere due to her wieght and size. My question is this :If they knew about this stuff why didnt they tell this. Why was it down to us to seek this out ? What are they meant to specialise in again ???

Surely these people should be made accountable for errors such as this ?

Hi ya, poor thing 4 stone is a great deal of weight to deal with. I must admit that I am not very clued up on the drugs side of things but i thought that it had the opposite effect. It might be different drugs that cause weight gain or no appetite at all. Its not fair of them not tell you surely, thats bang out of order now your daughter has to suffer and her confidence levels have dropped.

Some drugs - like respiridone for example - do cause a lot of weight gain which may seem trivial to professionals, but can be a major concern for teenagers conscious of their appearance. I wasn't aware of anything which combats this, so what the chemist told you is news to me too, Robanddeb!

 

I'm glad of a resource such as this forum where people post their experience of particular drugs, and the internet in general which makes it easier to do one's own research into medication. My daughter has been on five different drugs in the past two years and tends to do her own research as well - which in one case meant that she refused a particular drug.

 

Robanddeb, I sympathise with the way your daughter feels - (mine spent a long time battling the side effects of various drugs, and got very angry about it as she felt out of control). Her weight should return to normal once she is off the drug, in the meantime - I hope you find a way to offset it.

Meds have side effects listed on advice note in the box. I woul have thought the specialist woul have mentioned it, but my sisters didn't when they put her on respiridone, she put on 2 stone in a month and had a phantom pregnancy including crazy hormone levels which was absolute hell for her to go through having psychosis anyway. She wasn't warned any of this could happen.

 

4 stone and the scarring of stretch marks must be awful for your daughter to deal with, http://www.bio-oil.info/ sorry I know it is advertising but I've started using this on stretch marks and it works wonders, my friend is using it on a scar and its almost disappeared

 

Hoodia I am still wary of, it is in most of these wonder drug diet pills

My daughter has been using the programme to combat this and so far it has been successful.

It consists of hoodia barley and omega.Im not saying it will work for everyone but it is certainly working for our Daughter . with no side effects ... so far !

 

Im going to send the link to a mod as i dont want to get in trouble for advertising. Hopefully they will approve it and post it on site.
