Canopus Report post Posted March 29, 2006 Did anybody get to see the partial solar eclipse today? There's an excellent video from the path of totality in Turkey at http://www.exploratorium.edu/eclipse/2006/index.html

Canopus Report post Posted March 29, 2006 I got a few glimpses but it was very cloudy in Hampshire. The 1984 partial eclipse was much better.

Paula Report post Posted March 30, 2006 They always say dont stare at the sun though dont they else youll go blind. I wonder if any ###### has actually ever gone blind through doing this and if so when and wehere who are they.Or is it just another daft saying.Like if the wind changes yer face will stick like that.Or i always say to my son move back from the tv youll get square eyes. Then we wonder why there so confused our as kids.
Canopus Report post Posted March 30, 2006 If you were to stare at the sun continuously for 1 minute then you will almost certainly go blind. If you look at the sun through a telescope then you will be blinded instantly. I used a telescope to observe the transit of Venus in 2004. The only safe way of looking at the sun through a telescope is to project the image onto a white screen. When I was setting up the telescope a beam of concentrated sunlight came out of the eyepiece and set fire to some dry grass!
