Nt daughter (5)- awaiting assessment (3 year wait)

Recommended Posts

God she just had major meltdown made son ( 9 adhd asd ) look like an angel all because her pyjamas were too itchy! I dont want her dx but as hubbie watched her this evening in the park her social awareness is nil- suggesting that a little girl who always likes to play with her at the park ( girl is a year younger) is not a friend as if she was she would ask nicely to join in the game rather than just joining in. She is so different from son but .....! Head and sand come to mind.

Three years for an assessment seems a long time to wait - or have I misunderstood?

After my middle son was dx ASD my concerns about my elder son were taken seriously by the paed, on the basis that there probably is 'something' in the family. He was later dx AS, and is very different to his brother, but with similarities nonetheless! I have a third, who's three - no strong inclinations yet, but I'm not ruling out ADHD.

No its a three year wauit regardless of My sons DX. We which was convoluted and involed several hospitals and dx adhd asd dyspraxia. Daughter was identifed at 3 as possible dyspraxia and then reasssessed by physio and found ok but paediatricain had concerns about langauge and som behaviours. Hubbie and I tonight are concerbed as shes now in reception and already other kids ae excluding her in the playground. Has however been invited to parties nut as class small 15 - all were! Dont want to really accept it but she does hvae definate social comm problems. Worry about the label as dont think she has adhd or any learning diffs. The wiat is too long but scared to push it. Has been on the list for a year. God typing is terrible excuse can spell but too tired to correct my typos.

A 3 year wait...thats truly appalling! Our daughter was diagnosed in November aged 5, and had been assessed for over 2 years. The reason being that our oldest daughter had been misdiagnosed with autism at 2, we disagreed, the diagnosis was reversed when she was approx 4.....Not a good time! Anyway, when concerns were raised about our youngest daughter, we were very, very defensive, so they took their time. By the time the diagnosis came, NOBODY , inlcuding us, were in any doubt!!

Take care,

Debs

3 years???? that is trully appalling. I think I'd be writing letters (mp's, Newspapers, etc). Nobody should have to wait 3 years on the NHS. All those years going by. I'm really shocked.

Just saw Gp as daughter is ill. Mentioned the waiting list. He was shocked but no real suggestions except go private. ( that was all the autism team administrator could suggest to me)I can and may have to but this isnt what it should be about. My daughter is reasonably bright but is having socialisation problems. I have raised it with her school and will talk again. Because of my son they did listen. The teacher is reading a book I gave her. As for the waiting list there is no prioritisation apparently no matter what youre going through- can you imagine what that must be like for a parent? Anyone any idea who to contact. Im aware that it is a hot potato locally but whats the use in complaining as what they need is money. Anyone with any ideas please pm me. I have decided that Im going to try and get some action but no idea where to start. Its not the doctors fault - or at least I dont think so I understand that there are 100 children ahead of her in the queue. We have alraedy waited nearly a year. Im sure that if she was no verbal I would have by now had access to SALT or I would hope so but I do know that they have a long wait for any services. Thing is you go private and the LEA will not accept the dx. We are going to tribunal soon for son's provision. Thought of having to do this for daughter. She needs help in the playground. Hey my sons 10 and he still hasnt had any help and now to be honest too old to need it. It was suggested in countless reports so i sort of think whats the b***** point trying to fight again. Im off to drink a large glass of wine and drwon my sorrows. All idaes on a postcard.

Anyone any ideas where to start? There are guidelines for Gp - outpatient referrals of 13 weeks. Have called PCt who have given me a nmae - but who oversees the PCT? Dont I need to go higher?

You could start with your MP, the Minister for Health, the PM and the national newspapers. 3 years is absolutely totally stupid. And so what if there are 100 kids ahead of her on the list? Surely it doesn't take them 3 years to see 100 kids???? They only see you for an average of an hour at a time so they could easily see 5-6 kids in a day (and that's being generous giving them time for lunch and writing reports).

If you want any help wording letters etc then pm me I'd be more than happy to.
