Amelia Report post Posted May 22, 2006 Hi folks Not sure if this is correct place for this. Sorry if it's not. I had a meeting on Friday at home with new Speech and language Specialist and our Inclusion support lady. I was asked if I wanted to be referred to 2 different projects. My head was buzzing and I felt bombarded. I felt that my brain is full and didn't seem to take in what they said. I agreed to "More than Words" as long as I can get childcare. The other project was called something like UCAP or ECAP and would be instead of inclusion support. I didn't know whether to go for this or not. I don't think it was explained very well. Anyone know where I can get my brain enlarged to take in all this new information. (DS1 age 91/2 ADHD, possible ASD, DS2 3 3/4 ASD)
shortie Report post Posted May 22, 2006 hi Amelia, cant help u with ECAP,not got aclue what that is(DD newly dx,not sure of all the things available myself yet) but more than words i can help with, finished the course last month,a wk before my DD'S DX!! i found it really helpful as its all abt communication and how to understand your child better. My DD's speech is mainly ecolalia so learning abt visual helpers was great and it does help,we use photos i've took rather than symbols,u learn what level their at and so on,DD is at what they call the requester stage and she's a visual learner(probably why shes obsessed with tv) but the best thing for me was meeting other familys who are going thru the same thing,i only know 1 other mum at DD's SALT session and being single mum,not really got much support, hope u find it as useful as i did!! Amelia Report post Posted May 24, 2006 Thanks Shortie I had a assertive moment and thought this isn't good enough. I phone my Inclusion worker and asked for more details. She is going to get me a leaflet.
