Guest hallyscomet Report post Posted August 8, 2006 Hi I thought this video which was sent to me via the Biomedical Autism group could be sent around to people who never understand us, so that we can raise our own awareness! WARNING FOR THE PARENTS OF AUTISTIC CHILDREN, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU HAVE A BOX OF TISSUE WHILE YOU VIEW THIS!!!! http://www.autismspeaks.org/sponsoredevent...m_every_day.php
Bullet Report post Posted August 8, 2006 I've seen the video. I'm in two minds about it. On the one hand yes, people need to understand that there are sensory difficulties and communication difficulties that will have a negative impact. But on the other there was evidence in that programme of autistic children being affectionate, interacting, but on their terms and the parents did not seem to acknowledge this. Guest hallyscomet Report post Posted August 8, 2006 (edited) I believe these were on the forum before. Think they caused a bit of a debate. Brook Your right Brook, Oracle posted this on in July, it has had some controversy Dont know if the video is the same one though, here is the link Oracle posted. I have watched the video in my post, and cant say there is anything in it that would be causing any debate. Here is Oracles post. http://www.asd-forum.org.uk/forum/index.ph...95&hl=video Yes it is the same video. I certainly wouldnt sign a petition against this, I can relate to a lot of the content many of the images bring back many memories of what it was like for me and my son, and he is now 19 and I must say it does get easier, I remember all to clearly how worried I was as my son was just like all these children, especially the part where the child ran off into the traffic how could I ever forget those times . I think it is an important message to our families that dont understand what we as parents are going through. I back then especially when my son was around 3 or 4 recall the chaos of assessments and therapies all I can say is I am glad those days are over, as I believe they are the hardest for any parent, the initial diagnosis and especially the lead up to it, the sea of tests and assessments, I am sure we can all relate to that, but do our brothers and sisters and parents really know what it was/is like, I feel this video describes my life back then very precisely, and all the fears and worries about the future. <'> H.
