oracle Report post Posted September 24, 2005 I have read this book and it is EXCELLENT It is long and to begin with you may think what do I need to know all of this for ? But believe me if you want to Campaign successfully then you do need to know everything in the book. There was a a great deal of it I already knew but there was a great deal more that I di not know. I was given the opportunity to read this book before it was published and asked to comment on it. I think that it is a must for any parents group who are active and really want to have a say in their service provision. It really is worth buying. Lucas Report post Posted September 24, 2005 I'm always suspicious of anything that comes out of Treehouse; the whole ABA thing. The ABA groups in the US started off the same way by publishing or promoting material to radicalise parents into fighting for services and how to do it, then by aggressively marketing ABA. So the parents would end up using their newfound skills to get their children 'Medically Neccessary' ABA treatment. I'll keep my eye on them.
Kathryn Report post Posted September 24, 2005 liked the title of the next one: surviving the special educational needs system: how to be a velvet bulldozer I've got this book (author: Sandy Row) and found it interesting. It's not terribly useful as a reference book as it's a bit anecdotal, but definitely worth a read. The author adopted 4 children, 3 with asd and one with dyslexia and had to fight her way through the SEN system for each one, so this is her personal account. She is amazing.
