  1. Hi, Just wondered if anyone else is watching this award winning Australian (ABC) drama, I believe it airs on BBC 4 in the UK. The main character, Jesse Banks (Ashley Zukerman) is portrayed as having Asperger's Syndrome and the portrayal is pretty good, apparently Zukerman attended AS support groups to prepare for the role. I found myself identifying with the character and many of his traits. Would like to hear others opinions on the show. :-)
  2. The new Terry Gilliam film "The Zero Theorem", the main character exhibits aspie traits. A couple of classic lines from the movie that I found myself identifying with (note: he talks in a plural context when referring to himself for some reason): "We fear parties, we never quite know where to stand" "We always wanted to feel different, unique, objective analysis however concluded that we're as inconsequential as anyone else, we are but one in many single worker bee's in a vast swarm subject to the same imperatives as billions of others, we dulled our discontent, in alcohol, drugs, sex" On the whole it's not a brilliant movie but it's got some really good imagery, a brilliant social commentary on the state of society and some scenes that I personally enjoyed, it's worth a watch.
  3. I would say it's better to meditate in a seated position, then there's no confusion between meditation and sleep ...
  4. Hi all, I'm new here, I have recently been to Talking Therapies regarding depression and was told by the specialist that I may suffer from Asperger's Syndrome and am now waiting to meet with the Asperger's specialists to get a diagnosis. I've been "obsessively" researching ASD and AS ever since and find myself identifying with (not all, but) a lot of the traits and during my research I came across this site / forum and decided to sign up.
  5. You could try meditation, I suffer really badly (and always have) from trying to get to sleep due to constant thoughts running through my mind which makes me restless and then I toss and turn trying to find a comfortable position which always seems impossible. When I started meditating before sleep I noticed that I'd fall to sleep pretty much straight away and get an uninterpreted sleep right through until around 6am. If you've not meditated before I know it's not easy when you first start, especially if you have an active mind. I started with 5 minutes first of all and eventually managed to build it up over time to 1 hour, I'd say you need at least 20 minutes to help with sleep but the longer the better as it will help to clear your mind. If you've not meditated before just sit in a chair in a comfortable relaxed position with your palms at your sides facing up and your feet flat on the floor, close your eyes and breathe in and out in a slow controlled manner and concentrate on your breathing to try to stop thoughts forming in your mind. If you do become aware of any thoughts just gently dismiss them and continue to concentrate on your breathing. Try not to fidget and try to keep the same posture even if you start to ache. The only thing that meditation will cost you is time and discipline so it's worth a try and it's a better option than medication :-)
