  1. I ticked yes, as some days are awful. remember, you need to think of this form in your childs worst days.. My wee girls has AS, good luck with your application, I went to the CAB with mine, as its a minefield!
  2. I have a family find lady coming out to see me on Thurs for my aspie daughter and our family. Hoping to get a PC and some money for days out over the summer hols. She wants all of my daughters reports etc, so off on a hunt now, I am not know for being organised. Wish me luck!
  3. Im not working ATM, when my ex left, I hung on for a few months and it was hell! TBH, what I get now is close to what I would get workingby the time I paid for childcare, and you cant put a price on having to not sort out hours for appointments etc. I would love to do a little something though, its just finding it...
  4. Sounds like my daughter, who i found ina play place recently stroking the arm of some random tall man and smiling at him like he was an angel. Niamh thought this was great, random man was a little scared to say the least She has a dx of aspergers. she gets over familiar with strangers and would leave on the arm of anyone I truely think I was lucky to get my diagnosis after reading some of the problems on this board!!! xx
  5. We had a great day with my daughter today, had a meeting at the school and managed to iron out some of her specific teaching needs. We came home to find that she has been awarded DLA after all my worrying, and we are more than happy with our award! The backdated money will come in lovely for the half term. I had a wee cry, as I have had such a rough time with her ATM. So all in all, a very good day.... lets see if she settles at bedtime now, just to round it off perfectly!
  6. Well you would think that people had more knowledge now a days! mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!! My partner and I went into Waterstones to look for a book on Aspergers and we searched through such categories as Health, Health and Education, Psychology and there awas absolutely nothing. We searched to see if they would be under any other headings, but nothing. So we went to the counter and asked, the woman said "Oh yes follow me" so we did and she took us right to the heading they were under, "DRINK" with a small sub heading in tiny writing 'medical ailments' one little row with about seven books on aspergers. MY partner and i laughed in discontent of the way this woman was just nonchelent about taking us to this section as if we should have known better. The same woman walked away from us in disgust at our laughing, maybe she never got our sense of humour because if we didn't laugh we would have gave her a lecture on what aspergers actually is and got her to redefine the category right there and then.
  7. I have a runner too, we have some sucess with a wrist strap, and I tend to write my name and mobile no on her hand if we go out.
  8. Oh Shamu, huge huge hugs to you. I have no magc answers, just wanted to offer you my support xx
  9. Sounds lovely, I would be very interested!
  10. I have no practical advice for you, but my DD does this with her ears, nose and mouth from time to time. Very annoying and very unsightly I agree, not to mention so so sore for her. hopefully as the weather gets better, and we donr need heating etc as much, the soreness wont come in the first place, give it a cance to fully heal? x
  11. It happens all the time! It was Niamhs first day back at school today, and from the moment she woke up and ate out of the bin she has been screaming, lashing out and shouting... I have a visual timetable for her, set out all her clothes and breakfast, as I know these are often triggers, but still we have had a morning/ afterschool from hell... Days like this make me want to cry, she is infront of the TV now trying to relax. I am just going to leave her there for a while as she is so uptight. Any advice welcome! x
  12. Im from County Durham, seems there area few of us this way!
  13. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I do know that she ticks differently, I suppose because I pushed and knew for such a long time,I was questioning my judgement as a parent. I have to let myself off the hook, thinking she has to tick every box, or have every poss symptom. Thank you for all your support and kind words. x
  14. lol OK! It was the pead who told me to claim, even before she was diagnosed, so I am very confident that she will support my claim. I am such a dunce with things like this, thanks for keeping me right! xx
  15. More questions from me tonight! PLease please forgive me for rambling, being incorrect or having mega typos!!!!! My daughter (5) has aspergers, she was diagnosed in March 08, assessment process began June 07. I know she is different to my other children, always knew it. She went for many behavioral programes as a lot of her frustration leads to her kicking, biting, smacking, screaming etc, and for a long time she was seen as a naughty little girl by school and family etc... Anyhoo, she was diagnosed but does not display all the symptoms for ASD, for example, she doesnt have an obsession about a certain thing, though she would sit infront of the TV/ PC/ DS from dawn till dusk... I KNOW she doesnt have to, but yet I still feel that she is fraudulently diagnosed, I worry that I pushed too hard for an answer to her 'naughty behaviour'. There are days when it is quite clear she is an aspie, then others when I feel guilty I have sought a 'label' for her... She is on the 'high functioning' end of the scale, and can talk, is toilet trained, loves a hug when she wants to, and because of my stereotypical view of autism I feel like a fraud saying she is. Does any of that make sense?????????
