  1. My son is in a small school. He has a dx of adhd aspergers and dyspraxia. Hes been there over 18 months but is still a bit of an outsider. Although he was initially invited to parties this has stopped. I have tried taking his out with other kids after school recently but it just doesnt seem to help. He is 10 and admitted that other day that some in his class call him a nerd. We ae awaiting a report from nhs salt wbout how he can be better integrated in the school during unstructued times. The school has children with mixed dx adhd, dyspraxia, aspergers, dyslexia. He tends to play with kinex often alone at lunch. He doesnt play football as he found that he wasnt chosen. I think he would like to feel more included. As the children come from such a wide area its difficult to meet up outside school. He recently spent 3 days at a boarding school and loved it. I worry that if we did succeed in getting him in there ( expect will have to go to tribunal) he might not cope that well after te intial excitement with living with others in such an environment. Do any of your children board and how have they coped
  2. Glad im not the only one. I thought he was but I just seem to see it all over the place including in my hubbie.
  3. 1) paediatrician who saw my son on a ward after admission for a serious asthma attack. He was there 3 days and went from v quiet v ill to hyper monkey bouncing off the walls! He sat on the bed and said is there anything you want to tell me. I blurted out the story and failure of school. He fast tracked us through to see someone within 6 months when the waiting list was 18 months. 2) Head of current school. A lovely man who has dedicated his life to helping children like mine. Hes a bit of a mad boffin but his heart is in the right place - his son died and he knows how hard it is to lose a child who needed help. The world could do with more like him. 3) His teacher last year who helped to give him back some of his self esteem which had been knocked out by his previous school 4) Lisa Blakemore Brown. Im so sad to hear of her recent problems 5) The local hopsitals and SALT service who have really helped and supported us in our fight.
  4. I hope it goes well with the assessment. What Carole has said im sure we all have gone through. In a way I sometimes wonder if I did the right thing. However without the dx we wouldnt have got him the support. Its not easy. Take time to "grieve" as although it can be a relief it hits hard I found a few days later. Try to see the positive. My daughter is also on the waiting list for assessment - a two year wait. As shes only 4 there is no rush. She is also v different ( sons dx is adhd aspergers dyspraxia). Im not sure if she is or isnt. Some days i see things and think lets get it over and go get her assessed privately others I think she may cope without a dx as shes pretty able. We have to make decisions and try not to dwell on them afterwards. No decision is wrong surely if it was taken with the childs interests at heart. Take care of yourself.
