  1. Hi there good afternoon, thanks for the reply that you sent, have been looking at what Fragile X is, and will discuss this with the doctors when we see them as Liam has got flat feet and he extends his knees back as far as they can go which are some of the characteristics. Will discuss this with Anthony when he gets home tonight and see what he thinks. Just feel stupid as there is so much that we don't know. Anna

  3. Hi there we have a lovely little boy who will be three in October he is showing the signs of an autistic child and he has been referred for speech and language therapy and physiotherapy and we have got an appointment with a community paediatrician at our local child development centre, what I am now worried about is what tests Liam will have to go through. What did the 2 assessments consist of that you went to. Worried mum and dad to Liam
  4. Hi there we have recieved a letter saying that our DS has been identified as meeting the criteria for a child development centre referral, what staff make up a multi discplinary team.
  5. Hi everyone, thanks for the brilliant reply's we've had in our post's. We've managed to get our LA to a least send out the documentation so we can apply for an assesment, so thats a start. I fail to see how they could possibly refuse to help our son, he doesnt speak at all, just makes noises. He doesnt respond to anything we say, not even his name. We know it's not his hearing as thats already been checked. He appears to be oblivious to everything thats going on around him . Of the hundreds of toys we have around the house there is only a handful he will take notice of, they are all the same type press a button to make a noise, nothing else gets his attention. He's does'nt point at things or pick things up and bring them over. When he's not watching his fav tv programs he just wanders around making his noise, feeling his shirt collar or sleeve. Unless he makes great improvement over the next few months i cant see how he could manage in a mainstream envronment without support. When his older brother was 3 he went to a nursery that was part of a primary school, there is no way he could do that without a lot of support. Anthony

    SALT

Hello we have a 2 year old and we would like to hear from other parents who have a young child that has needed SALT and wondered how they got on and what they did to help the children. A and A
  7. Hi there mum here to Liam who is 3 in october we have a lovely little boy who is showing all the signs of a Autistic child and we have had his hearing checked as we thought he might be deaf as he doesn't respond when called but his hearing his fine so now a referral has been made to the cdc and SALT, and a referral has been made for Liam to have pyhsiotherapy as he has problems with walking, and we have sent off the applications forms for portage in our area, the DLA form is nearly completed now and almost ready to be posted. I phoned up our local council and spoke to someone in the special needs department and asked for info on Statutory statement of education and was disgusted with the attitude of the person I spoke to as if they didn't give damn her attitude was wait as he is too young and come back basically when you have a diagnosis and more evidence, so just feel I am losing the will to fight this battle. 8. We were looking for autism awareness braclets, we have some some now. As our son is only 2 , he doesnt much leave our sight anyway so tracking devices are not required just yet
  9. we feel that Liam needs one on one at the moment as he pays no attention to anybody so when it comes to looking at schools in our area do we need to look at schools particularly that help children with special needs or mainstream schools as well. A and A
  10. Hi there Liams nursery are keeping a daily diary each time he goes to nursery, Liam will be 3 on october the 31st. Been reading what you have said and just have a question what is COP. A and A
  11. Hi there will go out at get that newspaper as we are new to this as we are waiting for a son to be seen at the child development centre he is 2 years old and showing signs of being an autistic child. A and A
  12. Hi there thank you for the reply, yes liam is on the waiting list to be assessed at the child development centre. Talking to my health visitor is not a great idea as we don't get on for the reason that we showed her our concerns regarding Liam showing signs of Autism but every time she insists that he is just delayed in development which we don't agree. Liams nursery manager has discussed with us how Liam is when he goes to Nursery and she feels that all is not how it should be with Liam, and our GP and the doctor we saw at the child development centre when Liam had his hearing test discussed with us that she has noticed general developmental delay, speech and language delay and sociocommunication concerns so she has sent a referral to the consultant community paeditrician at the child development centre. Liams nursery is great with him, Kerry the manager is the designated SEN and she has been a great support to us and Liamthey have identified his needs while there and they give him 1-1 care while he is there and they keep a diary of what activities he does and what his behaviour is like while at nursery. We have completed DLA forms and we have sent away forms for portage, and we are waiting for a appointment for SALT Do you feel it is better to wait till we have had our meetings at the child development centre or to start a Statement of educational needs now. Sorry the message is so long just we are unsure what to do for the best for Liam. A and A
  13. hi there can someone please give advice about the statement of educational needs, we have a 2 year old boy who is showing signs of autism and we are waiting for a appointment the referral has gone through, Liam goes to nursery one morning a week who are great with him, we are unsure with regards to a statement of eduactional needs as if we need to apply for one now or wait till liam is older Any advice will be appreciated. 14. Hi there I know exactly how u feel about being sad, we are currently waiting for a appointment for our ds who is 2, we are just at the beginning of along journey as this has all happened in the last 2 weeks, so my feelings are all over the place and so are Anthony's Liams dad and just something as simple as a song can upset me. I feel the same way with Liam our son is showing all the signs of a autistic child and its not what we want for Liam as all parents feel like that I guess. Hope all goes well for you and your family just take one day at a time. A and A
  15. hi there thanx for the reply slight problem with speaking to the health visitor as we don't get on as we have had disputes over Liam as we are concerned that Liam is showing signs of ASD but she won't agree so we went to our gp and he agrees so has sent a referral to the Child Development Centre. Can we get the form from anywhere else . A and A
  16. Hello there I have been told that autistic children are entitled to free nappies it seems that it varies in ages from either 3 or 4 can anyone give me any advice on this. A and A
  17. Hi there does anyone know where I can buy autism bracelets and other autism awareness products from. A and A
  18. Hi giggles, no we havent had a diagnosis yet, still in the early stages. Yes our nursery has been great, the nursery manager picked up on our sons needs straight away and is making sure he get one to one attention. They are also making notes of his behavour while he's at nursery, which is to be given to the people doing the diagnosis/ assessment. So they are being a great help! A and A
  19. Hi there we only joined a few days ago we have 2 lovely children aged 5 and 2 and we are waiting for an appointment for our 2 year old as he is showing signs of ASD which was picked up on by Liams nursery and then i spoke to the health visitor a few times but she said he is slow at developing but we knew there was more to it than that so we took Liam to our Gp and he has referred liam to see if he has got ASD at first we thought he was deaf as he never answers you when u call him but he has had 2 hearing tests and his hearing is fine so we are just playing a waiting game, sorry i don't know what happens when the tests come back as having ASD as we haven't got that far. When they tested your son for ASD what was involved. take care A and A
  20. Hi there Jan welcome to the forum, we are fairly new to all of this as well, we have 2 great children aged 5 and 2, Liam is the 2 year old who is showing all the three classic signs of autism which has been picked up on by Liams nursery and our GP but with so many discussions with the health visitor who just says that Liam is just slow in development her words, but we knew that there was something that wasn't adding up with Liam, we are on the waiting list for an assessment its just horrid having to wait when u just want to help your child but u don't know what is the best way to go about it. We have done research on ASD but there is still lots that we don't know, we have filled out the disability allowance forms yesterday and it was horrid as you have to put all the bad things about your child and nothing good, so had to complete it in stages and that took most of the day with tweaking here and there. speak soon A and A

    Hi to all

i guess thats pretty much ruled out, i think we are still looking at autism as i dont see any of the other symptoms from the other conditions. After all the assments are done, who makes the final dicision on what the condition is? Does it have to be agreed by the various proffessionals involved? thanks, Anthony

    Hi to all

Are there any other sypmtoms in attachment disorder other than the obvious?
  24. A and A

    Hi to all

Hi again, and thanks for all the relpies, i think really our main concern is that if he doesnt get a dx he will get the support and help needed. Ofcourse the best diagnoses is the correct one, but we dont to be waiting around for months or years before we can do anything about it. Just wondering what attachment disorder is? never heard of it till now.
