  1. There is a girl at school with severe burns all over her face. (This must of happened along time ago and she is darked skin, which scars more easily)

She came out of school just behind my 7 years old asd son, he turned round and said to me. That girl with the strange face must look beautiful underneath because she is a lovely person.

  2. Some parents decide to wait until there child is at school before having the MMR. They know the child is interacting, there are no concerns or worries.Obviously the medical profession would not recommend this.

  3. The LEA normally come back to parents to tell them which school they have been given for there special needs child. Howeve, there are then parents who do not agree and sometimes it has to go to tribunal.

I would contact the school which you have named and inform them that your child has deteriated and how would they cope with him.

Some schools are very good and say they will not be able to cope then you have additional information you could use to get the school you want.

I would take your childs statement with you and ask the school how they are going to meet your childs needs but his changing needs.

Also go and visit the other school and ask the same questions then you may be able to make a clearer decision. All the LEA is interested is getting children transfered to a normal school because it is cheaper so go by what you think. You could also ask your ed psy what he/she thinks

  4. You need to ask your doctor to refer your husband to an ENT sepcialist who will conduct sleep studies. They will first examine his throat if this is normal they connect him up to machine which records him during his sleep. From this study they can tell if he has sleep problem.

  5. You can use the same theory for dealing with behaviour. Trying to cope with our children is difficult trying to get them to comform is impossible. Therefore if your child have behavioural habits you deal with the one which is causing you the most difficult and ignore the others.

Behaviours that are repetive you put in basket C, such as your child likes to walk up the road on the right hand side.

The behaviour or repetition you do not like but you can put up with goes in basket B.e.g. when you child gets angry he/she shunts

The behaviour which you find most difficult you put in basket A and deal with it. e.g. safety issues or other issues that would make it uncomfortable for you to live with your child

This is how you keep your sanity.

  6. They say you snore when lying on your back because your soft palate flops. Hence if your sew a half a tennis ball or full one into his PJ (if he wears them) then when he does roll on his back, he will automatically roll on his side and the snoring will stop.

    Hope you sleep well

  7. I had the same concerns as you so I told my son that every sunday he had to try one new vegetable. The firse two weeks he was very relunctant so he tried a tiny amount and had a big drink. Now he will try a small fork full and have a drink. They say you have to eat somethink 20 times before your brain decides you like it.

Within a year we have been able to add 3 new vegetables.

Why don't you try roast parsnips in honey. If these are acceptable gradually reduce the amount of honey. Then try carrot with honey.

Its hard work but worth it in the end. You need to stick to your guns.

  8. you can apply to social services for a grant for child care for children with disabilities. There are so many grants available and its first come first served.

I do not know the exact name of the grant but was told to apply for it last year but it had already been allocated.

some special schools also do play schemes for special needs children in the holidays. Kids also provide holiday provision for special needs children

  9. We live in a large city covered by 3 Primary Care Trusts. In the one trust they commision some private paediatic OT assessements and several courses of therapy through a private OT payed for by the NHS.

This is for children with sensory intergrations dysfunction.

This has only happened by parents writing to the commisioner at the PCT.

Once you have got diagnosis off the OT ensure this is put on your childs statement with how it affects your child. Because this can bring a lot of money to your childs statement.

So please start writing your letters.

  10. Wanted to share my experience with you. When my son was 7 he came home from school with carpet burns and bruises after having a melt down at the school. The same day he also got excluded from school for hitting out at the teachers when they were trying to move him into another area when he was having a melt down.

I was so concerned about these marks that I took photos. My friends kept telling me to report these injuries to social services. I was in denial, I did not want to believe someone had injured my child. After 6 days I reported it to social service because my friend said if I did not do it she would. Social services got my child examined and took statements. By this time the carpet burns where healing and most of the bruising had gone. There were bruises consistent with finger marks on my childs arms. Having photos was not enough evidence to take the case forward.

The doctor and social worker said I should of taken him straight to the hospital so the evidence was fresh.

We did take the school to a disability tribunal for excluding our son for having a melt down and handling him inappropriately. We won the tribunal.

However, we will never know who held our son down so hard that he received carpet burns to his hip area on his lower back. This is a child who always lies on his stomach and curls his arms head and legs into a ball when he is having a melt down.

IF YOUR CHILD EVER COMES HOME WITH A SEVERE INJURY OR SEVERAL INJURIES UNEXPLAINED PLEASE REPORT THIS TO SOCIAL SERVICES DUTY WORKER. OR TAKE THEM TO A CHILDRENS HOSPITAL. DO NOT KEEP ASKING YOURSELF HOW YOUR CHILD GOT THEM. ITS TAKES A LOT OF GUTS TO DO THIS STRAIGHT AWAY. I DO NOT WANT ANY OF OUR CHILDREN TO SUFFER.

  11. If in doubt you could do a year at prep and see what the rewards are. A happy child is a child who can learn and has a good self esteem.

A stressed child as a low self esteem which means concentration and learning are affected.

Both of these also have an affect on brothers and sisters mothers and fathers. It can add or relieve stress in your relationship.

None of us can see in the future we all just try to do our best
