  1. I have four children and Daniel is my third child but my eldest dd is from a previous relationship.
  2. Hi, Daniel strated toilet training last Thursday and, on the whole, things are going very well However, there seems to be a bit of an issue about poo, sorry if this post turns out to include tmi!! As I've said we started on Thurs and while he has been quite happy to wee on the loo he became extremely distressed about pooing ,this was at nursery but his teacher sorted him out and all appeared ok. He then went for a poo when I put his nighttime nappy on and that has been it. No poo since Thursday evening and this is most unlike him. So, is there anything I can do? He is non-verbal so explaining things might not work. Also, how long do I leave it before I take him to the GP? thanks Kath
  3. Oh Lord, yes! They are just a nightmare and as he is only 3 (very nearly 4) and non-verbal, bribery just isn't an option. The idea of the summer holidays is enough to bring me to tears but the only locally run playscheme for kids with special needs is for 5 and over, gnnrrk! Loved "big, fat, hairy snot-bum from outer space" !

    Lent

Is that true, I used to down 'full -fat' coffee by the bucket load and never seemed to feel the effects I would also recommend cutting out the caffeine slowly, I did it by doing one cup proper coffee one cup decaff, one cup proper two cups decaff etc. Seemed to work for me and I didn't suffer any withdrawl symptoms.
  5. Thankyou all for your replies, you have all given me food for thought. I'm meant to be seeing D's paed. soon ( if the appt. ever turns up!) so maybe I can ask her about a major buggy as we haven't been referred to OT. Sorry for the blanket reply but as it is half term time is limitted
  6. Thanks Bid. I keep hearing about these but I don't really know what they are or how I would go about getting one?
  7. Thanks Phoebe, yup, maximum mobility and no sense would definitely describe Daniel too. The reins and the buggy straps might be the way to go though I can hear the screams of protest already!! Reward based stuff is tricky as he is non-verbal and doesn't really respond very well to that sort of strategy, though maybe one day....
  8. My DS (Daniel , 3.5) can walk very well but more often than not if we are out ( down town, going to pre-school, doing the school run etc) he will refuse to walk or he runs off. The running off is getting quite scary as he ran out into a road on Tuesday I can't always keep up with him, especially if I have my youngest DS with me (14 months). So usually I put him in the buggy ( and the baby in a sling, honestly I look like I'm setting off on an Artic expedition!) to save any fuss and distress. I've tried a buggy board but he can just climb off of that and unfortunately it seems that Daniel can now climb out of the buggy straps and run as he did yesterday and today. I don't drive and there is nobody else to do the school runs for me so I need to be able to work out some safer way of getting out with him. I've tried a wrist strap when he was younger and he just used to undo that. I'd appreciate any ideas people may have. Thanks!
  9. Hi, Daniel is 3 years and 9 months. How old was your child when a) they could eat properly with a knife and fork He is actually pretty good with a knife and fork, in fact most of the time he has better table manners than his 5 year old brother. b ) dress themselves with encouragement c) dress themselves on their own He doesn't do either of these and most mornings it is hard work to get him dressed, if he is in a good mood he will lift his feet to put them in his trousers but that is about it. He is, however, an expert at getting undressed and will often appear in the front room having completely stripped off! d) sleep in a single bed without a bed guard Since about the age of 2. He does occasionally fall out but not too often and most nights we find him in his brother's bed. e) go to the loo at night without needing to wake mummy or daddy up! He is still in nappies day and night.
