Hello My son aged 4 is also obsessed with water.He constantly runs taps drinks pints and pints daily pours it plays with it even sits in my daughters doll's bath and pours water overhimself!!! at his nursery we had to put a plan of action because of it.he would be allowed 10 mins maximum in the morning and 10 minutes in the afternoon. it seems to work but as they are constantly busy with him there he has a lot of distractions. At home is a different story,I too am thinking of getting locks for my taps. I have the red hands up at the taps,he takes no notice. If you get any luck with locks,could you let me know Good luck

I just returned from the post office where there was a horrendous long line of people waiting,but i had to post some ebay things out so i HAD to wait. it was a real nightmare E was on form and screamed down the place,ran away pulled over the rail etc etc. people were just staring and tutting,i was so cross i turned around to about 8 people and said'I AM SORRY IF MY SONS BEHAVIOUS OFFENDS YOU,BUT HE HAS AUTISM'. With that they shut up,I carried on finally got served and left.I got outside and burst into tears. My 5 year old daughter was a real star and tried to calm E down and he finally did with a bribe of sweets(yes i know i shouldn't) but when you are desperate,i really dont care. i feel better now having got this off my chest instead of boring my relatives who really dont understand. thanks everyone out there

thanks for all the replies i feel a lot better! especially j's mum i will call about the child in need assessment. with regards to the buggy,E has a regular bugy still,he escapes form it,with the major buggy it was worse he could easily get out he needs a straight jacklet!!! (i know i do too sometimes!!)

HELLO EVERYONE I HAVE JUST VISITED 2 SCHOOLS RECENTLY A SPECIAL AUTISM UNIT WITHIN A MAINSTREAM SCHOOL-8 KIDS 3 TEACHERS AND A SPECIAL SCHOOL 30% AUTISTIC 30% MILD LEARNING DIFFICULTIES 30%SEVERE LEARNING DIFFICULTIES. I AM VERY CONFUSED,BASICALLY AFTER I HAD VISITED THE SPECIAL UNIT I WAS CONVINCED IT WAS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR DS BUT TODAY AFTER VISITING THE SPECIAL SCHOOL I AM NOT SO SURE. THE SPECIAL SCHOOL DOES HAVE A LOT MORE FACILITIES THAN THE MAINSTREAM(SWIMMING POOL,MORE GROUNDS ETC) BUT THE MAINSTREAM GIVES HIM THE OPPORTUNITY TO INTIGRATE SOMETIMES?? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE IN HOW TO MAKE UP YOUR MIND.MY DS IS NOR AT THE SEVERE END OF THE SPECTRUM BUT NOT MILD EITHER,HIS NURSEY TEACHER KEEPS SAYING HOW CLEVER HE IS??? ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY THE WAY MAINSTREAM IS NOT AN OPTION-NOT SAFE ENOUGH. THANKS

HI MILLYMOO I AM ALSO ON 'HAPPY PILLS' BECAUSE OF POST NATAL DEPRESSION AND STRESS.MY DS IS ALSO 3 YES IT IS A NIGHTMARE A LOT OF THE TIME,I GET (SECRETLY)VERY CROSS WITH OTHER MOTHERS WHO SAY 'YES MINE ARE THE SAME' WHEN TALKING ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN HAVING A BAD DAY. I FEEL LIKE SAYING 'I BET THEY AREN'T,DO YOUR CHILDREN RUN AROUND SCREAMING SAYING THE SAME WORDS OVER AND OVER FOR HOURS ON END,DESTROYING THEIR TOYS,PULLING TV'S OFF STANDS,EAT SNAILS AND WORMS, TRY TO ESCAPE OUT OF WINDOWS,TAKE POO NAPPIES OFF AND TREAD IT INTO THE CARPET AND RUN OFF AFTER ESCAPING FROM THEIR BUGGY WHEN YOU ARE QUEING IN A SHOP' TO NAME JUST A FEW LITTLE INCIDENTS IN THE DAY.THAT WOULD SHUT THEM UP!!!!!!!!!!! WHEN I 1ST WAS GIVEN THE DIAGNOSIS(LAST DECEMBER) I SHUT IT OUT FOR A FEW MONTHS,IT IS ONLY IN THE PAST 4 MONTHS I HAVE STARTED FINDING STUFF OUT.I DID A LOT OF INTERNET RESEARCH BUT IT CAN DO YOUR HEAD IN BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH OUT THERE A LOT OF IT DOES NOT REALLY HELP IT JUST SCARES YOU. I FEEL POSITIVE NOW I HAVE MY PLAN OF ACTION,I AM LEARNING MORE AND MORE ABOUT MY BOY EVERYDAY AND HOW TO HANDLE HIM. THE BEST THING I DO IS JUST LAUGH,EVEN AT THE MOST HORRIFIC THINGS.THEN I DONT GET SO STRESSED.HE IS HAPPY SO,SO AM I!! AND THERE IS QUITE A LOT OF HELP OUT THERE,MY ADVISE IS SAY YES TO ALL THE HELP THAT IS OFFERED AND THEN SE HOW IT GOES,IF IT DOESN'T WORK THEN TRY SOMETHING ELSE. FOR INSTANCE WE HAD A FAMILY THERAPIST(I THINK THAT WAS HER TITLE) WHO CAME TO THE HOUSE TO TRY AND GIVE ME ADVISE ON HOW TO HANDLE MY DS BEHAVIOUR.SHE WAS DREADFUL SO WE DECIDED NOT TO SEE HER AGAIN.BUT I NOW HAVE A PORTAGE WORKER SOON TO BE WEEKLY AND MY DS HAS A FIRST TEAM VISITOR AT HIS NURSERY,I AM ALSO GOING ION THE EARLY BIRD COURSE AND THEY HAVE BEEN FANTASTIC AND A GREAT HELP. GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING YOU AREN'T ALONE XX

HI THERE, MY OLD HEALTH VISITOR CALLED TODAY AND SAID SHE HAD BEEN TO A CONFERENCE WHERE A BRILLIANT PROFFESSOR WAS SPEAKING.HE IS A SPECIALIST IN CHILD PHSYCHIATRY AUTISM ETC SHE SAID I SHOULD TRY AND GET TO SEE HIM WITH MY SON(AGE 3 ASD) DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I GO ABOUT THIS. I AM NOT IN HIS AREA HE IS IN LONDON AND I AM IN SUSSEX.(HE IS WITH NHS HOSPITAL) I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MY CURRENT PIED -VERY NEGATIVE,JUST GAVE HIM THE LABEL LAST YEAR AND SEES HIM EVERY 6 MONTHS FOR NOTHING. IF I CANT GET REFERRED, DOES ANYONE HAVE A CLUE ABOUT HOW MUCH A PRIVATE APPT COST??? I DONT KNOW IF YOU CAN DO THAT WITH EVERY DR??? THANKS V MUCH

Hi Guys i wondered if anyone had any good ideas on how to collect a urine sample from a nearly 3 year old still in nappies? i need to get it to send to sunderland.i have one of the stick on bag things but my ds is not having any of it.!! any ideas would be great mum to ds born 18.8.04 ASD & cleft palate & dd born 15.10.02
