  • Interests
Well work doesnt leave much time for interests. But when i find the time i love reading, and im quite the movie nut. But above all, my family and my motorbike are my first loves....
  1. Hi all, Im Melissa, Spikes wife.... I have done alot of reading, on the subject due to the outcome of our eldest sons assesment, last year, and I really do think there is a genetic link. From what a lot of you have said, there have been, some suspisions, as to close family, and particually on the females fathers side of the family..... This is obviously not a concrete statement,,, merely from what i have read and experienced myself.... I can almost definately say that my father has Asperger's, my grandfather (fathers, father), is a strong case, and my 21 year old brother, whom from an early age, showed signs of severe dyslexia, and behavoral problems. Due to the time my brother was going through school, there was very little known about children with learning and social differences, so he basically slipped through the net, he is at this moment in time going though a physchological nightmare, as he is plagued with paranoia, compulsive disorders, evil mood swings and at times will not come out of his room for days... The problem is,,, he is tooo smart for his own good, and has seen Dr's and psychatric teams,, but he tells them what they want to hear,, just so they leave him alone...... he is not the only person i have encountered who have had strong poss of having ASD's... And are slipping through this net.. It is all too easy to expel a child/adult from society, due to the fact that they don't process, react or see things the way the rest of the community does. What the community doesnt realise is the fact that these people are usually extemely gifted, and can offer a lot to society, as far as I am concerend I dont just have a son with ASD I have a son, who's gifts may one day help provide answers to questions that we could never have the vision to see.
  2. CarolJ... know exactly how you feel...2-3 days ago im at work minding my own business when my mobile starts ringing nothing new there just lissa (my wife) phoning to say hi..except this time shes in histerics screaming "the kids are gone the kids are gone" and hangs up...i run to my locker grab my helmet sprint out of work to my motorbike (not easy when you smoke 20 a day)and fly home...get home to find the house wide open and nobody but the pooch about... so i start running round the estate like a mad man...next thing i know i find my wife and kids walking up the road towards me... turns out that my eldest son (and AS) decided that it would be a good idea to take his brother to the park how sweet huh?... and it would be if my eldest son wasnt 3 and my youngest 2...and if the park wasnt half a mile away and the other side of a major road..how they got there in one piece amazes me... they gave me a heart attack and the wife hasnt really stopped shaking since...but theyre ok and now we just lock everything so they cant get out..oh in we have put in a request to the nhs to have eyes surgically implanted in our backside to make sure we can watch them ALL THE TIME!!!!! nightmare.... but thought it would make you feel a bit better to know your not the only one..

    Introductions!!

Hi all. My real name is Justin, but all my friends call me Spike (its a navy thing). I work for the M.O.D as an engineer, which ive been doing for 2 years since i left the Navy. Im Married to Melissa and we have 2 sons. Ethan Wade whos 4 and Taylor Jay whos 3. Yesterday (Sept 10th) Ethan had his First Assesment and after the 2 hours of IQ style tests, we were told that they believe he is suffering from Aspergers and that they need to do more tests to see exactly whats going on. Well up until about 1130 yesterday id never heard of Aspergers. So i did what every modern person would do and jumped on the net, and thats when i found this place.. From what ive read of this site you have all been here for quite a while and all seem pretty clued up (wish i was). I hope to make some new friends while im here and borrow some of your knowledge and experience.... i look forward to talking to you all at one time or another....
