  1. Hi has any one else heard that there can be a link between ASD and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. I have 3 children 2 who are hypermobile and 1 has just been diagnosed as having Asperger traits. Her elder brother has a full diagnosis of aspergers ( but is not hypermobile) the other is very hypermobile but has no ASD. The specialist we saw thinks they could all have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome which has a high incidence of ASD anyone else heard of this ????????
  2. Hi I need a rant ................... My son is 16 and has aspergers syndrome we have been going to the same church for the last 9 / 10 years and I felt until today that they understood Autism - however my feelings have now changed. !!!!!! The vicar who Matt is very close to was leaving - his last service was this morning. Matt was very difficult throughout the service etc crying etc - not because the vicar was leaving but because everything was different - more people different service etc. After the service we went into the church hall for drinks etc they were serving tea and coffee and after a presentation there was going to be a meal with wine and orange juice. We were in the queue for tea and coffee when the vicar came in and said he needed something stronger so poured himself a glass of wine Matt left the queue and went to get orange juice but was told it was not time yet for a drink of this table - he asked why the vicar had been allowed and was told because he was special. Matthew became very distressed because he did not understand why the rule could be broken for one person and not him - selfish I know but very Aspie. ( apparently if Matt had a drink everyone would have to have one and it was not time!!!!!). I took Matt out because he was angry and upset. I got upset because Matt was being so difficult - and the church warden said to me "everyone is upset because the vicar is leaving why should he and you be treatred any different." and asked Matt if he would drink water to which Matthew replied yes - because he does. (answered the question if she had said will you drink water now he would have said no). I was told I was being unresonable. Do they not understand anything !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Matthew had as much right to have been allowed to say goodbye in his own way as anyone else - after this we came home so Matt has missed out now. Matt enjoys church but after the way he has been treated I do not want to take him back to this church am I wrong???
  3. I have a son who is diagnosed with aspergers syndrome ( He is now attending a special school - but what a fight) He always tried to fit in and would take his frustration out on us at home. My daughter who is 9 is now showing much less severe problems (The peads are doing a 3di?? assesment at the moment as he agrees with us), however i am banging my head against a wall with her school who do not see a problem at all. - Hence no problems will show up on their questionaire don't know where to go from here.
  4. My son was in mainstream school until he was 14 and then moved to specialist provision in Banbury over 2 hrs away by car. When I left him there he was all smiles and I cried for days, but it was and is the best thing I ever did for him. He is safe and has gone from in his words being the bottom of the pile to being someone. He has changed beyond all my expectations, and has passed some GCSE's and is now at a college on day release from school. I am sure you have done the right thing.

Hi I am new to this site I have three children 1 Son (16) dx with Aspergers and 2 daughters (13&10). My son was diagnosed at the age of 8 and I have had an uphill battle to get him the Education he needed , he remained in mainstream schools until midway through year 10. I am please to see this site has been set up and wish more info had been available when we were first dx. Hope to be able to give and get lots of advice. I would love to hear from people with older teanagers with Aspergers especially info about college and work placements.
