Mumble Report post Posted December 11, 2007 Led? That's what drainpipes and pencils used to be made with in the olden days, right?
baddad Report post Posted December 11, 2007 Led? That's what drainpipes and pencils used to be made with in the olden days, right? No - that's 'Lead', and pencils were/are graphite anyway 'Led' was what alchemists transformed into gold in the early latter quarter of the 20th century Those Alchemists were: Sir Robert de Plant (agenat?) - James Page esq Sir Johnathon Paul-Jones Sir Johnathon Bonham-de-Thwack Some believe that if you play their early recordings backwards you hear the message: Mumblessatwitmumblesatwitmumblesatwit repeated over and over again That's rubbish: I've tried it, and the message is definitely: baddadsasarkysodbaddadsasarkysodbaddadsasarkysod L&P BD
Tally Report post Posted December 11, 2007 There were 2 blokes on the telly this morning who went last night. They'd come all the way from America for it, and were first in the queue. They didn't know each other before, they met on a website.
Mumble Report post Posted December 11, 2007 No - that's 'Lead', and pencils were/are graphite anyway Actually they used to be lead before the lead was replaced with graphite over fears of children sucking the ends and getting lead poisoning. I'm surprised you don't remember. Maybe lead poisoning has prolonged effects . . . Mumblessatwitmumblesatwitmumblesatwit repeated over and over again Hmm Your needle on your wind up gramaphone appears to jumping slightly - the first 'repetition' doesn't make sense - mumbles sat wit . . . I'm surprised you don't remember. Maybe lead poisoning has prolonged effects . . . No they didn't... they just called the graphite 'lead' it wasn't real lead or even led! The metal was sometimes used in compounds used in pencils, because it was cheaper than natural graphite, but it wasn't the 'core' just part of it... Graphite was commonly known as 'black lead' which helped the confusion a lot, and lead was used directly by the romans or the greeks (or someone) for scraping drawings on walls and stuff, but it's not very good for the job... Duno why i know all that but I do... A million years ago I went out with a girl who's dad was a director of an ink manufacturers, so perhaps she told me?? Another interesting fact about lead - If I hide behind a shield of it Kryptonite doesn't effect me, but it ruins the way the wind plays with the egdes of my cape! Mumble Report post Posted December 11, 2007 No they didn't... they just called the graphite 'lead' it wasn't real lead or even led! Hmm, it seems you might be right on this. I found out why it's called lead though - when a large quanity of graphite was discovered, the person who found it thought it was lead, so they thought the lead pencils they made from it contained lead when actually they didn't.
