Going to panel...

Recommended Posts

Hi all I have not posted in a long time as have been having alot of problems with my son and I have also been unwell and in hospital for the past 3 weeks so I apologise if it seems I have come back not said hello and jumped straight in with a post. I am really in need of a bit of advice, my boy is currently in mainstream school and they have now said the are unable to manage him I have found a school that would be fantastic for him his consultant also agrees that this would be a good place for him. He is going to panel tommorrow to see if he gets a place im very nervous about this and unsure what the likely hood of him being given it would be. Does anyone have any experience of this? If so how easy is it? He has a large statement 25hrs per week if that helps?

Thanks sooooo mucho!!

Lyn

I have done zilch work today and now im going home for a vodka and coke

When I was going through the same thing, I know sometimes panel meetings went on into the early evening. They would also prefer not to talk about any decisions over the phone, and would prefer to write - to "avoid any misunderstandings" apparently!

Hi Shortcake sorry to hear you have been unwell and had a spell in hospital, hope you are now on the mend !

We went to panel on the 1st May and whilst I chased, I only heard back yesterday via email from our caseworker. We are in the throws of (hopefully) going from mainstream to specialist provision and like you have a school in mind which would be perfect. Our caseworker has said they have taken on board our preference and that preference is included in a list of 3 school they are looking at to meet our DS 's needs. The case worker is to investigate and present it school back to the panel/locality team to select the appropriate school, I beleive all 3 are now specialist schools so at least they have finally agreed that mainstream is not a option as originally suggested on his proposed statement. DS is allocated 23.5 hrs per week.

Don't know if any of that helps but all I can say is don't rule anything out.

Good luck
