IBS

Recommended Posts

Following on from the other post about bladder problems I wondered how many here have IBS. I was diagnosed with IBS a few years ago. I have times where it can be a week before I can go and it is so painful that I'm curled up in bed in pain. Other times where I'm caught normally out somewhere and have to make a mad dash for the toilet. There are times that I haven't made it in time and luckily it has been at home so have been able to clean myself up etc. I do worry that there will come a time when it happens in public, it has come close a few times. I take medication which only sometimes helps. I'm thinking about getting a RADAR key, but feel unjustified in doing so because I have full use of my legs and have been in trouble a few times using disabled toilets before. What do you think?

Hiya - just a thought and you may have explored this option already....

I too suffer with IBS and need to stick to a fairly rigid diet else be prepared to spend majority of next morning in the bathroom! - but least in that case I can sorta plan my activities as it were.

I've seen allergy/food sensitivity specialists and had blood test from doc etc and my stomach currently seriously reacts to wheat/corn/msg and worst of all milk/cream/cheese - unfortunately all of which I would love.

My food heaven would be a crusty roll filled with cheese!! - yum! - but unfortunately it's just not worth the pain!

It may be worth looking at your diet if you haven't already done so, it's definately given me slightly more control

Good luck >:D<<'>

hi there my other half has IBS and he is a b****r with it eats all the wrong foods like high fat, dairy, all the crisps and biscults in the cupboard, eggs, and too much of the bad things in one day

his stomach swells up and he turns green in pain then god help all of us in the room when he lets rip OMG sickenong lol sorry he is reading this and has his smile on say " WHAT BUT I LIKE THAT FOOD"

it is hard for him and i nag at him when he goes for his favourite foods that make him ill but as all of us know what you can't have you want even more

he had tablets for his but with me on his back it's not as bad as it was we eat freash food and a good variety diet so mostly now it's his own fault by eating what he knows makes it kick off

i do feel for him thou and it is hard like tonight he has had eggs, cheese and biscults so OMG i will pay later and he will tomorrow

I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to when I eat too much wheat or dairy. The thing is even when I try to cut down on these things I get cravings really bad, and an intense need for those foods and don't feel myself until I can have them again. Then when I do have them they make me ill. Stupid body wanting things that make it ill.

The cravings are bad when u first cut those foods out, but thats a sure sign it's bad for you. There are times I would have murdered my hubby for him to let me have a bite of his crusty bread smothered in butter!! :)

Tis worth it though SG...if you can stay off them for a few weeks you'll find you'll get away with the odd small thing now and again and the after effects would'nt be so bad.

I find it hard to get past three days. I managed it once with wheat. The first few days I get the shakes, terrible headaches, low on energy. If I do give in I could easily devour a whole loaf of bread. I feel sorry for drug addicts if I struggle so much with giving up wheat or dairy!

Ooops! Well I just had a pizza from dominos, garlic dips, chicken dippers and cheesecake, shortly followed by half a bottle of share size diet coke.

I was diagnosed with IBS when nothing else seemed to fit. I think they use it to diagnose unexplained gut problems. I pretty much lived off Imodium and indigestion pills. It got worse and worse, and I suddenly lost 2 stone in 2 months, which was when I realised I had to do something about it.

If you have narrowed it down to wheat and dairy, what about cutting down on them slowly? You could just eat a little bit every day and enjoy it, and hopefully it would be enough to prevent you from pigging out on a whole pizza.
