lisa35 Report post Posted June 10, 2008 Just looking for general experiance really Awiting decision re whether LEA will assess, having 1;1 at upper school(he is 13 in sept) and still has had 3 fixed term exclusions in last few weeks, isnt coping at all So bad he s seeing camhs, isnt sleeping, etc In fact so near withdrawing him until get place, but told this is a big no no , and will be harder to get him back All professionals- senco, autism outreach, educational pyschologists agree he needs place ina sschool that has deisgnated specialist provison for kids with autism/aspergers There are two in area- one is awful, but near, other is more appropriate(well, we feel it is) and autism outreach said will put it to the Officer overseeing his case that s this is best place for him How much success do peeps have generally in a. getting a statement b. the school of prefance Has anyone been in similar position as us, ie everyone singing form same hymn sheet, often I seem to read here that schools disagree with parents, etc. Just wonder if it may make a difference to the outcome! Thanks , Lisa All professionals- senco, autism outreach, educational pyschologists agree he needs place ina sschool that has deisgnated specialist provison for kids with autism/aspergers Thats really good to have proffesional back up, you need as much evidence as possible to proove that a mainstream school can no longer meet his sens, and that he needs a spersific placement, what is clear is that he is under a great deal of stress been expected to learn in a mainstream school with no resourses or specialised units. I get really angry with this kind of situation because its like the child has to severely be broken before the LEA will think about alternative provisions, If I was in your situation I would march down to my MPs and share the situation with him, its disturbing that the LEA want children to be so effected by mental illness before they act,, its cruel and its disgusting. I would put all my concerns in writing, I requested that J be signed off due to stress at school but he wanted him to remain in education but he has totally backed up my request for a specialist placement in writing to the LEA and I have a letter that explains the situation if J has difficulties with anxiety in the morning. J is attending part time under the proffessionals and my request as its just too much for J to cope with, today it took over 2 hours to get J settled in school, it needed the time of two teachers, myself and lots of patience to get J to stay for the morning, we did it in the end as I really want J to finish his last few terms before he leaves permantly. My posts on school action plus described very clearly what I think of SEN in mainstream for children who clearly need a specialised and spersific placement. Good luck, I go throw similair issues regaurding school and he has a statement, 1-1 and yet he still can not cope. JsMum
