muppet Report post Posted August 13, 2008 (edited) Hi All, My names Steve, I'm a single Dad with a 7 year old son D - AKA Shifty. I realised early on in D's life that he was further along the spectrum than most (as am I it would seem ) but it was not until March this year that he was diagnosed as being on the high end of spectrum - possibly Aspergers. He also has mild ADHD, difficulties with emotion regulation and I've just found out that he has an inherited chromosome abnormality/imbalance. It was actually a huge relief to get the ASD diagnosis because it now means I can access specialised help and resources to help him develop himself and to make sense of the world he finds himself in. I don't like labels but it would seem that its the only way the education system can give kids like Shifty what they should have by right. (easy on the soap box Muppet ) I'm looking forward to getting to know people on here and swapping experiences - especially with Dads. Life is easy - it's just the extent of the challenge that varies.
