profound learning difficulties and problems with auditory processing

Just been speaking with L's keyworker in resi.

 

Initial feedback from L's ed psych report suggest that L has profound learning difficulties and problems with auditory processing. I am going to call school tomorrow to speak to teacher for a bit more info. But will have to wait for the ed psych's report before knowing full details.

 

This year is going from bad to worse.

I have a friend who was told that her son had profound learning difficulties and she set out to prove that he only had these profound learning difficulties because of his communication difficulties. My friend was worried that they would stop trying with her son if it was generally accepted that he had what they call and SLD where I live. She firmly believed that if his receptive and expressive language skills were improved then so would his ability to learn improve. She won her fight and her son now attends a specialist school out of area and is going from strength to strength.

 

Given your sons difficulties they do all appear to point in the direction of severe communication issues. It is rare that someone with AS will go on to be diagnosed with profound learning difficulties. My friend's son also had a diagnosis of AS. Only making you aware of all of this to ensure that the LA do not attempt to use the profound learning difficulties as a cop out.
