MurphySG Report post Posted February 6, 2009 With Tribunal 4 weeks away, our LA rang me today to say they agree to name the specialist school we have been fighting for on my son's statement. It's not over yet - I have a meeting with them next week to negotiate over the amendments to parts 2 & 3 we want, but the major battle is over - their position (confirmed in writing) is that they do not accept DS needs residential but they cannot provide for his needs in-Borough. No argument from me there. I've been saying that for a couple of years. They want to place him as soon as possible. We already had a residential assessment booked at the beginning of next month and as long as that goes well and the school shuffle the beds he could start as soon as possible after that. He's over the moon and so am I - he's had about 2 terms of secondary school since year 7 & he's now Year 9. Not a lot of time left, but enough to make a massive difference. It's up to him now. Champagne is on ice as I type and I don't intend to be very sober at all tonight

This is disgusting But well done Murphy for hanging in there. Don't withdraw your appeal until you have your statement in your hand.
JsMum Report post Posted February 7, 2009 well done for persisting and fighting to get what you know will make a massive difference to his presant and future, it is not easy, and it is certainly not fair what the LEA do to our Kids and families, years of wasted education and support, all in the name of Money, it is disgusting, makes me very angry. I am so pleased to read that you got the Residential school, we too fighted on part 2 and 3 and got that changed and had a whole new compartment added, diagnoses recognised and extra support put it, like you we were going to tribunal and just as I was prepared for attending the panel, the LEA gave J all the things we requested, and now in a residential school, I kind of felt deflated at first, but overjoyed that the LEA did agree in the end. The changes are remarkable, your right that the right placement can make such a difference in such a short space of time. My son is reading voluntarily now, learning to play, and share, and things are a lot better, and were both a lot happier, its only been a few months in and there is progress already. Let us know how things go, good luck with part 2 and 3. JsMum
