Annual Review

Recommended Posts

What role should the LEA play at the annual review. We as parents are required to put our views in writing. His teachers have written a report stating why despite being in small class sizes he still needs extra 1:1. Can the LEA just turn up and take notes and play no role? The Lea have indicated that as it is a specialist school they do not see why they should pay for extra 1:1 in maths and literacy. They claim that he is the only child in the lea where this is the case other than those with severe complex needs. My son's school has lots of kids from lots of leas and many receive extra 1:1. Last year it took 6-7 months to get the amended statement after the review.

Hi.This link may be useful.

In my area the LEA usually send a representative if invited....often the EP attends.A report is sent to the LEA following the review. The LEA then consider whether any ammendments are needed based on recommendations made by those present. If they decide ammendments are needed then I think a proposed amended Statement is sent out with information regarding right to appeal to tribunal and time limilts for appeal.Karen.

We rarely had anyone from the LA at T's Reviews. All the reports (school, yours, other professionals) need to make a clear case for why the 1:1 is needed. You don't say if it is a LA specialist school or an independent one. LAs often feel that independent schools charge so much anyway, that any extra help should be provided free. If it is an independent one, they probably charge more for their 1:1 than a LA school. The LA may argue if he has 1:1 then he might as well be in a mainstream school, as the small classes are not helping that much.
